Together, both episodes total more than 26 missions along with 25 intricate visual novel segments telling the story inbetween. All character art has been updated and animated since episode 1.
You'll have the choice out of many ships and weapons, from zippy Kaze interceptors to heavy assault Caliburn fighters. Each equippable with a wide variety of guns and missiles, and you can even craft more guns along the way.
So prepare yourself for some serious anime inspired space shooting at the end of this year! As large capital ships duke it out with big guns blazing, shields flaring and engines roaring, while small fighters have intense dogfights around them and bombers attempt to deliver their deadly torpedo payloads.
I am amazed that you've put this much effort into this game. And for free, no less.
Wow, just a few days away! I can't wait, this is going to be awesome! :D
Btw, I've got a question...what is the relation between the 2 Wings of Dawn titles? I've played Episode 1 of this, but I played another, older Wings of Dawn title that was a complete story from start to end. Is this new Wings of Dawn series a re-telling or re-imagining of the original game? Or is it a sequel...or a prequel..? I recall looking for this information but I couldn't find anything on it, so I figure I may as well ask the one making it!
A totally valid question, I can see how it can be a bit confusing.
The first Wings of Dawn that was released back in 2010 (has it been that long already? yikes) was my first venture into making a game with the Freespace 2 open engine, and it was indeed a complete story from start to end. At one point I started working on a sequel to it, but eventually scrapped that idea for a number of reasons. The main one being that my own skills had improved and looking back on the first release I found it to be a bit of a shaky foundation to continue developing from.
So I decided to take on an episodic release format and rework&reimagine; the whole game and story. There are some superficial similarities between the old WoD and WoD RE but they are otherwise not related/connected in any way.
Hope that clears it up a bit.
That does clear it up, thank you! ^^ The improvements between your old game and Wings of Dawn: Episode 1 were immense. I was mindblown when I played the mission where you fly inside the colony; I've never seen an object of that scale in any FS2 campaign, let alone one you could actually fly inside of! It's rare that you're actually able to fly inside ships, out of all the campaigns I've played, it's something I've only seen done a in a few campaigns. One of them being the original WoD, of course. :P
The VN segments between missions were also nice and unique as far as I know, I've never seen anyone else do something like that.
Really looking forward to seeing what episode 2 brings to the table! It's gonna be awesome, I'm sure! :D Tho I'll probably play the remastered Episode 1 first to refresh myself on events xD
Is there any flyable cap missions ?
