Fallout 4: Wyoming, Rise of the Great Khanate

Greetings everyone and welcome to our 3rd development blog.

State of the mod on July 2016

The Problems:

As you’ve probably noticed, it took us longer than usual to make this devblog and as you can probably imagine that is not the best of signs. However fear not, this is not an announcement of abandoning the project but I will explain in depth the state of the mod and the problems we’re currently facing.

During the last months we’ve been having problems in regards to the development of our storyline. Whilst we have an abstract idea of the type of story, lore and factions we want to include, we haven’t been able to develop an intriguing main storyline.

The development of such a large project works as a chain, and with the lack of a clear foundation (storyline), other chain pieces are starting to break. This is because without a main storyline all of the other departments are lacking direction. I’ve done my best to keep things under control and moving but at this point it’s starting to become increasingly hard for me to keep at it without a storyline.

Whilst this is a team effort and I honestly don’t want to diminish the contribution of my team members into the project, the lack of a clear direction means that often times there’s no tasks for them to work on. Many people who joined the project have dropped out, some for personal reasons but most because progress was very slow (writing) and they had nothing to work on or because we encountered hard obstacles (Custom asset creation and import into Fallout 4, scripting etc).

I’ve been all over the place trying to keep things going. So far, I have created the main world space and generated terrain textures based on 3 different climate regions, generated LOD, retextured a plethora of vanilla Fallout 4 assets, level designed a couple of exterior cells, worked on importing custom assets into the game and finally I also worked on creating custom assets from scratch (3d modeling, texturing, creating collision). I did all of those things whilst trying to help the writers come up with a story and suitable lore and more importantly whilst trying to organize and direct an entire modding team.

As you can probably understand doing all of those things on your own simultaneously, whilst trying to mod, solve problems that may arise, learn new things and direct the modding team can be severely exhausting.

So despite all of my efforts, the problems at the writing department have affected everything else. Currently, progress is almost a halt as many writers have dropped out from the project. Whilst all of these issues sound very negative and are not good signs, I and a few members of our team are determined to do our best in order to solve these issues and make something that will be unique and fun.

The Solution:

So as you can probably imagine what the Wyoming project needs more than anything else right now, are writers.

We need mature people (preferably over 18 years old) who have a talent for writing and are native English speakers, who can work within a team and most importantly devote a few hours on a daily base. If you’re interested in helping us, I will require in advance a sample of your writing so that I can assess if you’re a fit for what we would like to do.

Whilst writers are the current priority if you’re a creation kit wizard, a talented concept or 3d artist or if you have some other skill that we can use and you would like to help, please also feel free to send me an email at:

The Good News:

So, besides all of our problems we did manage to make some progress so here’s some screenshots of various things like progress on retextures (with vanilla as comparisons), work on new textures and also some environmental eye candy.

And finally a small teaser video ;)

See you on the next one!

Atlas

I'd love the chance to help out the team, especially with the writing. I would be more than happy to send some work your way and fill the requirements that you're looking for.

Are you looking for a particular type or style, such as an essay or creative piece? I presume the submission is also done via the email you've provided.

Hey, thanks for offering to help!

In general we're not looking for something very particular, we're mostly interested in people who have some experience at worldbuilding (crafting lore, background history etc) and writing quests. If you would like to submit a sample send me an email at atlas1080p@gmail.com

Once again, thank you :D

I would presume you also need the person to have background knowledge of the fallout universe as a whole? If you want them to worldbuild inside the fallout universe.

Yes you are correct, knowledge of the Fallout universe and lore is something that is highly desired.

Maybe you could put up an contest for the story. That would at least bring some new ideas.

I am absolutely excited for this mod! I'm not a writer, but if I could, I do have an idea for an intro to the mod.
