I've had a handful of good map-makers contribute their designs to this mod, and it's always fun to work in someone else's work into this mod. For one, the design work and the object placement is all pretty much done, and all I really have to do is some polishing. Also, though, I get the chance to work with a large semi-unknown quantity - a new map designed in a way I might not necessarily do it.
In any case, this is another of those maps submitted by designers other than myself for this project - this one is authored by Xavious, and as far as I'm planning, it will be the last user-added map to this mod (there are still others I've made/will make myself).
Mon Calamari: Glacier is a fairly small platforms-type map set in the arctic region of the watery world Mon Calamari.
I say it is "fairly small" - this may be an understatement. In fact I think it is the smallest (or one of the smallest) land maps in this mod, which has maps that skew towards small anyway. This isn't a bad thing, and I know I've pushed people to design small in the past anyway. Lots of times, newbie map designers in this game tend to skew large and lose perspective or detail or both. This map is a good example of why - for this game at least - tending towards the smaller end of the scale can work well.
The model design for this map is pretty simplistic, but that's okay, because the author used what he had well and made sure that the flow of the map itself supported a fun experience. The map design is simple, but not simplistic, and that's what's important - it's a fun map to play and everything else follows that.
