It is February 15th and time for the mid-month Road to the Future! Before we get started, the entire Dev team would like to thank you all for voting for us on ModDB. Thanks to your dedication to Resistance and Liberation, we were ranked #10 Mod of the Year of 2009. It is hard to express the joy the devs felt after seeing the mod they put so much time and effort in to be voted into the top 10.

Before we get to the media, the RnL Team is still looking for help. If you would like to dedicate some time to help this mod grow and you know animating, level design, sound engineering, or texturing then please click here. Also, if you have any other skills that you believe could help us out in any way, please let us know via PM on the forums or through the link above.

Stefan Bermig has sent me some more pictures of his "Train map". He does works on a little bit of everything and still has time to work on his this map. Without further ado:

The new website is up and running! Eero R., Toni Kreska, Dan Minns, and Ricky Williams have been working over time to finish it up. After the series of delays, we finally managed to gather a full website team. They did an extraordinary job putting it together. Please bear in mind that because it is brand new there will be some empty or broken areas until we can get around to polishing everything up. If you want to see the new website, then head to our main page(link here).

Stefan Bermig has also been working on the G43. You thought I lied about him doing a little bit of everything, didn't you? Ryan Duffy sent over his base of the G43 so that it could be worked on as soon as possible. Thanks to that, it is currently under construction. Below is the initial fusion of Stefan's and Ryan's G43.

Now for the RTTF Q and A's.

1. When you reload your weapon and it still has a round chambered(applies to magazine-fed guns), will that round increase the shots you can fire?

There is nothing in place to keep track of the bullets on a small scale. The ammunition system enforces a reload after you have fired the default number of bullets in a magazine. This means that if you reload an MP40 with 8 bullets left in the magazine, you'll still only be able to fire 32 from the next one. See below for a larger explanation on ammo management.

2. When reloading, will the game remember how many bullets are left in the magazine, and will you be able to use magazines multiple times, until they're completely empty?

Ammunition is stored as a pile:

Let's say a player starts out with 200 bullets for their MP40. After every 32 bullets, we force them to reload. If they reload before that, any bullets left in the magazine are placed back in the "pile".

While this is not the most realistic system, it is the easiest to implement (it's the HL2 default). A more realistic system may be created sometime in the future, but we are focusing on the important things right now.

3. Will there be more options for the gear the player can equip himself with or will it only be labeled as "Extra Ammo", "Frags", and "smokes"?

The load out has been altered to a system which gives more power to the mapper. The rest is still behind closed curtains.

4. Are there plans to add a melee weapon so that NCOs are able to stab players, for example?

We have not created a melee system for the NCO's yet. However, there has been some talk about the possibility of altering the melee system with a hit from the gun's stock.

5. How many major battles do you intend to feature in the mod before you call it done? Are there specific ones you are focusing on or are you trying to cover all your bases and cover as many as possible?

We intend to cover as many battles and make as many maps as our level designers are willing to. In the end, we hope that there will be a good balance of major battles and realistic yet fiction-based battles.

That is all we have to show you for this mid-month RTTF. If you have any questions for the next RTTF, please pm them to me(Eric Murphy) so they can be included next month. Stick around for the next update on March 1st!

wow that was pretty awesome! love seeing updates from this mod, keeps getting better and better. But from screens on that new map, seems like a lot of the repeated brick texture....But map looks to be showing good progress! nice job!

The map is still a work in progress, and as such, the visuals are incomplete and unfinished. I would advise you to take a look at the other maps in-game to get a sense of what it might look like when finished - with the more urban setting in mind.

My favourite piece of this update were your link buttons at the bottom. They are amazingly well done :)

Then you'll love our new site. Our artist, Eero, completely redesigned it using the same theme as those buttons. www.resistanceandliberation.com

Does the in game character drop the expended magazines when depleted? If so, that would subtract the remaining ammunition in the clip from the "pile". Sounds like it could have buggy consequences if implemented via LUA. Careful guys. Keep up the good work.

At the moment we don't do anything like that. It may be possible in the future, but it seems like a hassle that would require a whole additional set of actions to check the remaining bullets in a clip and keep track of the partially used clips, etc.
