EPISODE 17. NEW STORY OF HALF-LIFE 2.

INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone, friends! Our team is pretty damn nice that Episode 17 has its own audience of people who support us and are waiting for the game release. Since the beginning of the development of the game a little more than a year has passed, and during this time a lot of new content was created from scratch, starting from new models and textures, and ending with large game locations. And today, we will tell you in detail about the new changes in the game.

HISTORY

In Episode 17 there will be a new main character - Alex Lind (Alexander Lind). Alex is a former engineer-developer of a new generation of weapons, who prior to the incident at Black Mesa, worked for the "Thunder RPA." (Research and Production Association) located in Norway. "Thunder RPA." carried out orders of the laboratory complex Black Mesa on the development and creation of weapons of mass destruction, and weapons of a new generation. Alex Lind participated in the development of the Gauss gun, as well as in the creation of an intercontinental ballistic missile "Atlas".

A few months before the incident at Black Mesa, Alex Lind worked on a classified project commissioned by Black Mesa. The objective of the project was to create a device that completely dissolved foreign soil from an unknown location. Halfway to the creation of the prototype, in the Black Mesa laboratory complex, an accident occurred that would later carry hundreds of millions of human deaths on the ground, and open the portal to another world. Following the opening of the portal, an alien race will invade the earth, which in seven hours of war with people on earth won. This race will later have the name - Combine (Alliance).

After surviving the war, and mass destruction of people, Alex settled in City 17 - the central residential complex for people on earth. Working in the factory for the manufacture of provocative posters of the Alliance forces, he lost long ago faith in the changes to a better life. But a series of events, and information from old acquaintances, Alex Lind learns about the project of the Alliance for the development of weapons, the name of which - Episode 17.

NEW COMBINE TECHNOLOGIES

In Episode 17, our team wants to pay more attention to the Combine forces, to reveal them from the side of an intelligent, powerful, and developed race. Their technologies must fully reflect the essence of their existence. One of the main innovations of Episode 17 is the striking surface of the Combine. It is a material (plate) that resembles different metal alloys, and has a dark blue color. The damaging surface, like the plague it can spread anywhere: on the ground, in buildings, on walls. Thus, the Combine wants to get a completely new planet for their life - the Earth.

NEW ENVIRONMENT


From the very beginning of the development of Episode 17, the main emphasis was on creating new, memorable game levels, based on the maps from Half-Life 2 Beta. Already there are locations that fit for a full test of gameplay. We want to return such forgotten Valve ideas as the Wasteland with their legendary rusty submarine, Depot with dynamic battles with the help of antlions, the AirExchange base with the no less legendary core, the Borelias ship with its "Dark" secrets, and of course the base Kraken located on a underwater.

NEW WEAPONS AND PROPS


In the Episode 17 arsenal of the player will be significantly replenished with new types of weapons. We will tell you about the full list of it later, but we assure you that it'll be interesting and diverse. Below u can see the first 3D model of the Kriss Vector submachine gun, which is a full-fledged replacement for the SMG from Half-Life 2.

I'm really liking the story behind this, at first I thought this was a simple beta remake mod but I'm glad you guys created your own story instead of re-hashing the same used idea that everyone and their mom has done.

I gotta say though, while reading the plot summary of the game I suddenly had this wave of nostalgia. Remember when you played HL2 for the first time? How exciting it was to escape the city and team up with the resistance and meet up with several refugee outposts along the way all the while dodging Civil Protection bullets? I hope you can accomplish something like this in your mod albeit with a new story. Something that's just as exciting and new so the player themselves really feel like the world is out to get them and they need all the help they can get. Running from cover to cover, ducking into sewers/abandoned areas, and meeting up with people from the underground to aid you in escaping the city; anything to get them out of the hell that is City 17.

I don't mean to rant but your article hit my nostalgia bone which now has me more hyped up for the project than ever. Seriously jonesing for your next update, keep up the good work LiVL team!

I've been following this project since its early days, and I remember telling myself that "With this quality, this mod definitely requires a story".

Well, you made my day! Those screenshots are top-notch quality! I'm sure the story will not disappoint us because it already sounds pretty interesting!

All the little screenshots throughout the year leading up to the great unveiling. You guys have done an awesome job so far, I'm glad to finally see what it's all about! Have you considered a Steam release? God knows we need some quality mods on the store page right about now.

I'm very excited to hear that the story is a bot more unique than some of the others. It's nothing special, but taking this mod beyond copying the beta is a really good idea.
