Another week, another fully realized player model. This week’s Dream Casters’ Duel press release features the introduction of Marrish. His story is short and to the point. Read on…
Much of Marrish is unknown. He is only encountered in the dream world. He seems to be invisible, simply animating the clothes and mask he wears.
This week’s media items include several renderings of Marrish. Also included in this release is a short text document relating some of Marrish’s gameplay elements and a production video in which Marrish demonstrates a super attack. He can be seen summoning zombie bots to do his bidding!
I'd also like to take this opportunity to welcome mcewanian to the DCD team! He will be handling many of the PR responsibilities for DCD. Be sure to visit moddb.com and dcdthegame.com next week at 8pm EST, as the update will feature four new concept art pieces of the characters’ alternate costumes! Thnx for your support!
basically what sonic is saying is that he's tired of the same promo materials produced for promotion and none of the substance that goes into the actual mod project in-game. Gameplay produced is better than pretty frontpage news imo.
doncorneo99, based on the fact that all of your previous comments demonstrate that you don't read or think before posting and that many of your comments revolved around HL2...
...I take it that you are still unaware that moddb.com is more than just HL2 mods and that this game is being built upon a modified QIII engine? I'll also assume that you don't realize that shaders have already been programed for QIII as evidenced by games such as War§ow and Monkey Kombat Arena? So yes they will transfer to the game.
I was going to write something mean here, but I really just feel sorry for you at this point.
based on your guys previous comments its obviously you know nothing about the Modding or game design and this mod is doomed. Your model may be skinned but it sure as hell wont look like that...actually i begininning to wonder if you do know what skinning even is....
@rofl106 and no what they are showing WONT transfer to the game, you have to program a shader for that, you know something that takes talent...
Thnx! That one took some doing! I learned a lot as well.
Video looks amazing :) Very fluid animation
great stuff :D:D
oh yeah, and the zombies are pretty rofl
nice as usual nice stuff cnt wait to see this running in game
The same? This includes new renders and a very nice new animation. I'd hardly call that the same as the previous posts.
Same? Look at it this way. It's me and three WWII shooters on the front page. That's not the same, it's different.
Eighty-eight unskinned tommy gun renders that are no different from any other mod's released three months apart from each other = OK
Four distinct character models skinned, rigged, and custom animated released once a week = BAD?
Check your math. ;)
Lol, Salochin beat me to the rhetorical question. Thnx! :)
Sonic_Valley, I whole-heartedly disagree with it being the "same", but you may be right about it turning prospective (it's not perspective BTW) fans off, for whatever reason. But I won't let ppls potential, wholly illogical pet-peeves stop me from releasing content on a consistent basis.
Yah but your game looks like sumthing id play on a dvd player that i bought for 10 bucks for my daughters sleep over (i dont have a daughter) :P
this zombie atack is cool!
yeah well i really like what sonic valley is doing these are definitely not the same even though they have the "same format". The animations and everything look awesome btw
i mean like sonic valley is producing music for mods for free and its really high quality.
I don't like how he is calling your stuff unoriginal though :( because its obviously completely original :D and again those are really nice animations and models ;)
Thnx all! Thnx TheFrog4me, I like your Thug and skeleton models BTW!
Who's doing what now?
And thnx!
mike you get defensive when ppl comment badly. why :(
firstly applying a simple mat on a mesh is not a skin, and all your posts are the same.
to me it feels repetitive and boring. change your style mesh with the crowd and show more work per news post.
this is not saying your work is not fine, im commenting on the way your representing it.
sonic valley know what there on about, i agree 100% with them
re: rofl106 ah I see. For a minute I thought you had the two of us confused! Thnx again!
Sonic, be part of the solution then! A track for DCD would ensure some variety to our news posts! Lol!
Defensive? Actually I often make concessions if the other person has a point, as I've done as recently as earlier in this thread. I do however get irritated (now on the point of being angry actually) when ppl make repeatedly ridiculous or unreasonable posts.
The character in the Flash image has materials applied because it is a vector image. As in, it wouldn't work otherwise. All the still renders are skinned. I know what a skin is.
I don't think you realize how much work is involved in modeling a character, (and yes) skinning it, rigging it, and animating it is. It is the reason you don't see more fully realized character models on the front page.
Did you download each of the last four videos? :) Either way, it's your opinion...
...and to tell the truth I'm starting to bore myself making these posts  and I decided awhile ago that week 11 will feature four concept art pieces of all four characters' alternate costumes and that week 12 will feature all four characters' alternate costumes renders.
...That aside, what is really repetitive to me is the endless stream of HL2 mods, zombie mods, wwii shooters, and licensing rip-offs. As are all the unskinned weapons renders followed by the skinned weapons renders followed by the unskinned vehicle renders followed by the skinned vehicle renders (at which point the mod usually dies). I honestly don't see how the rare bird of four wholly original, entirely distinct, stylized and finalized character models would strike anyone as repetitive.
nope i don't download a movie to see one character, yes i am aware on how much time it takes i model myself.
more work doesn't have to mean more character models, what about maps or concept art.
i do almost all graphical work for my mod, i also work full time, so i know whats involved.
take it as constructive criticism to improve your posts, from some one thats been there done that for some time.
also im not bagging your game don't take it personally, however bagging out other mods is a shameful stab in the air, if you want respect for your work respect others.
I'm not "bagging out" (working from context here), I'm criticizing true repetitiveness.
Well then, I suppose you wouldn't know that the video download features three characters and that the previous two videos feature two characters apiece.
I welcome all informed constructive criticism.
That sounds fair enough but I prefer, "if you want respect for your work, do good work".
I think you guys think a little too highly of your work...... And how about you guys learn to accept some critisism.
@WraithsLotus
it's called an art style foo.
@mike
why not youtube your videos rather then make people download them?
i reckon you're justified slamming unoriginal projects, there's too many of them.
I can see what you guys are saying, but I think you all should be glad that these look somewhat similar in nature. Why? Because it means that he is organized unlike almost every other mod out there. And I don't mean to offend anyone by this, but organization generally plays a titanic part in the death of a mod. Thats why it makes me sad to see you guys saying these things. Because he is always organized and on time to show a large portion of his work, but because of this, people really don't see to appreciate it as much as say, the occasional "Tuesday night news post" or whatever with absolutely no structure.
Its seems completely ironic to me
then why doesn't everyone say that about almost every single front page mod news? Most mod posts aren't ingame, in fact very very few of them are, i've been around here long enough to know that. I bet less than 5% of all front page mod news is ingame. Its probably far less than that. I also bet that less than 5% actualy contain animations  You might as well criticize every newspost that comes through here...
The differnce is they, dont have some update everyweek, They dont get all defensive of their work, And they show models that mean something. Your showing renders with an ink n paint material...News flash that doesnt transfer to the game, all it does is hide your poor modelling.
@doncorneo99
And I'm sure you can model so much better. The models in this game may not look fantastic to you but they will fit into the game well and I enjoy this new style.
Yeah actually they do translate into the mod... Wouldn't anyone get defensive if people said that their hard work was nothing? I can't tell any poor modeling btw, and i'm a gamer not a modder. I'm really what matters and i'm satisfied. You must have not played games like Warsow, where they use cell shading to make a really fun FPS. An update every week really keeps you posted on what is going on with the game. Most mods have a lack of news post. All you want is eye candy, when substance is really what matters. And all mike has shown is substance. And you just criticize him for it...
Whats most shocking about your statement is that his work are the main characters of the game... And that doesn't mean anything?
Caps lock broken? Anyways, this was addressed on page 2, but I'll quote it again for you...
Nice try trying to critique my "(hidden) poor modelling (sic)" skills,, but since I'm using skins, you'll have to agree that there's no evidence of poor modeling here, hidden or otherwise.
Damn doncorneo99, don't you ever get tired of making a fool of yourself in my news threads?
Wow doncorneo99 was pwned :p
