The second alpha of Cycles3D 2 is now available with these changes:
- Fixed camera controls to properly move based on mouse movements
- Added support for loading very simple custom cycle meshes (in Collada format only) and applying a single color to the entire mesh. Comes with the original Cycles3D model in Collada form. You can access this in the Options menu.
The Git repository at Github.com has also been updated.
Here is a screenshot of the original Cycles3D model in use:
The custom model loader is pretty much customized to work for that model, and any other model you'd like to use would have to put in the CycleModels folder in the game's data folder.
This will probably be the last update for a while.
Collada huh? so I can create a cycle in Sketchup then use it in-game?
Since I haven't tried it with any other model besides tron1.dae, my answer is: "In theory, yes." You would have to make a model that fits the same dimensions and orientation as tron1.dae which comes with the game. The two issues are:
- The game wasn't optimized for complex models, so it could look pretty wacky if you try importing some random stuff. In all cases, the collision bounds remain constant.
- The other limitation is that the whole model is imported as one color. That will need addressing in a future update.
still, pretty cool feature. Players could models a simple bike with the same dimensions and get to race with their own model.
A single color is fine.
I did try to import the tron1.dae into Sketchup 8, but no success.
