A fix for the CTD issue. -

Posted by on

Been getting a lot of questions regarding a crash to desktop, without any sort of message, at various points of the game (sometimes 5 minutes in, 15 minutes, 45 minutes, etc), so I figure it's best to post it here rather than keep answering individual questions. Of course it will be included in the next full version's ReadMe, whenever that will be.

This CTD issue, 99% of the time, is caused by one of two things. First cause is, assuming you are on Windows, that the partition/hard drive you are running Sins off of lacks a paging file, which ensures that Sins cannot use up to 2 GB of RAM, as it should be. The solution to this is to enable a paging file, or use Large Address Aware on Sins' exe, though the latter method is not recommended as it doesn't always do the trick; some testers have reported that LAA didn't do the job when a paging file did. The second is that you are loading the mod with every single race; if you are not using all six races, don't load all six of them, as this uses up notably more RAM than necessary.

Let's say hypothetically I don't know a thing about paging files. In this totally hypothetical case, how would I go about enabling one?

just a tip:
I had the same issue, and by reducing all the graphics (from highest to high) made the game more stabile for me...
I hope i could help
