There will be an SFM cutscene of you in the dropship as it crashes, but that isn't done yet so it wont be shown here.
High above the African Wasteland, your dropship flies at max speed. A desperate distress signal has been sent from City 96 and you've been sent in to rescue a Combine V.I.P from the Rebels, who have successfully overtaken the city. As you are briefed by The Commander, the harsh screeching of steel engulfs the dropship pod. Your Commander yells "BRACE FOR IMPACT" at the top of his lungs as the Dropship lets go of the pod, causing it to plummet hundreds of feet towards the ground. With a loud THUD, you are knocked unconscious.
You finally awake once again, hours later, midnight has turned to morning and the birds happily flutter and chirp outside. The corpses of your dead crew mates surround you, besieged by flies. Some of them clearly died instantly in the crash, their bodies contoured in unnatural ways and the fragments of their shattered bones protruding from beneath the skin while a few others seemed to have barely just survived.
Now you and your remaining squad mates must venture out through the wasteland and towards City 96, where this Important Individual's last known location was.
