Hello everyone!
This is my very first time to create a map for a game, and there are a lot of things I don't understand, but I'm trying to figure it out through trial and error. To be honest, I don't even fully understand how to set up VATOR. There are so many times when I want to implement a feature but it doesn't work and I give up on it. Well, I'll take it easy and not worry too much about the details...

I like retro shooters from the 90's because I feel nostalgic. Especially Blood was my favorite Build game, so I initially planned to create a map for Blood. However, I couldn't understand how to use it after watching the editor, so I gave up right away. Strangely enough, I happened to find SWScriptset (by oasiz) and tried it, and I could understand map editing a little.

I'd like to mention the following points that I found particularly disappointing in the creation of SW's maps.
: I can't freely select the wonderful soundtrack by Lee Jackson.
: Even if I set up the map according to the rules, it often doesn't work correctly.
: Can't set "a kill trigger" for enemy characters (except for some of the bosses).
: For some reason, players are able to walk through objects that are made up of sprite, with no gaps between them.
And many more...

Sorry for the incoherence.
I'll keep working on it slowly, but thank you in advance for your patience.

Good luck, Build is hard to work with at first but if you keep at it, you can achieve lots of really cool things (and it's cool to see more Shadow Warrior content too)

Hey hi I saw that you wrote in the description that you didn't put any new bosses , however you could do as in the case of Twin Dragon, replace the basic enemies with new ones

Hi there. As for the TD boss, merely replaced the Zilla image file (Art file)...That's still fine, though.

In your estimation, how hard would be to learn Build editing
for someone who is fluent in Doombuilder-based ID-tech1 editing?

The biggest roadblock is that Build/Mapster doesn't have a GUI interface; it's all about memorizing keybinds. The actual editor, once you've learned how to use it, is still very simple to use (since it's a what you see is what you get editor) I was using it to build stuff even when I was only about 12. There's lots of tutorials on YouTube - out of the build engine games, Duke is the easiest to build for. SW and Blood have more complex effects to work with so they're a bit harder.

Thank you for answering! I am considering to try my hand at either Build or Quake at some point (and perhaps make a more gothic version of Blood...or another Hexen, lol). Though I didn't quite understand what you meant by "does not have a GUI interface" - do you mean it does not have an option for something like the visual mode in Doombuilder, or do you mean that it launches directly into a visual mode and has no 2D overhead map? Or do you mean that it just does not have the button bars, the kind that is usually found in any decent program. Would you care to elaborate?

The latter, there's no GUI buttons to press or anything like what you'd see in a modern editor. You use the mouse to select and move things, but otherwise you need to learn the keypresses. There's lists and commands to show these, but that initial learning curve is there; it's not really difficult to overcome but it does require a bit of commitment.

I know his good old website. Maybe I'll post a question on the forum.

That doesn't sound so bad, after all - as we know, the properly efficient editing workflow relies on keyboard shortcuts and not on GUI anyway. And thus i guess it would be reasonable enough to control. The only editor that is really off-putting to work with - is the one for ID-Tech4. Making enhancement modifications to Doom3 maps is such a dragging slog, compared to Doombuilder, - which is more akin to a creative whirlwind. You are not limited by technicalities or a fear of breaking the map if you click in a wrong place. That is why i love Doombuilder and ID-Tech1. The only limit is your own creative imagination. (and the sky, lol)
If Build is anything like that, and does not present as a convoluted mess of ID-Tech4, then it should be golden. Will take a look. Thanks again!
