"Sandstorm" is the first major project of the World War II Submod, an overhaul based on the Great War Mod for Napoleon Total War. It is centered in the North African Theatre of the second World War, with a planned campaign based around a slightly alternate-history scenario that lands Rommel's Afrika Korps in Alexandria, Egypt, and a reeling British Army preparing to fend off the dual threat of Axis forces in the West, and the Vichy French threat from the North.

The World War 2 Submod holds the aim of simulating, within Total War's warscape engine, the tactical and strategic decisions that a commander of this conflict would have faced, the populations and technology at his disposal, and both the grim realities of war and the terrible consequences of defeat. Battles are not isolated affairs, but the product of numerous engagements along a dynamic front; individual units are platoons or squads rather than the larger companies; new battlefield options from tanks to direct air assaults to rocket launching infantry invalidate old tactics as they create new ones; supply and reinforcements take on much greater consideration in this World War, where campaigns are often fought far from home and armies increasingly dependent on petroleum.

Aided by the resources of TGW, this mod intends to portray the war in an authentic, enjoyable, and challenging manner. Multiplayer is highly encouraged, and we will take steps to facilitate that. Due to the large amount of work involved, releases will take the form of several custom-battle-only updates to the goal of a full Sandstorm Campaign (1.0) and to theatres beyond, in what was the greatest, and most terrible, war of all time.

Sandstorm 0.5 Released!

News

Hi everyone,

We are very glad to finally release Sandstorm version 0.5, our first proper release, and the first full-team release. If you've been following this mod, you likely know about 0.5, but for those who don't: it is the first release of our North African Campaign-themed mod called Sandstorm. While currently battle-only, a campaign is in progress, which will be released as version 1.0, and be the culmination of our efforts thus far. This version has three of the factions we will eventually include: the British 8th Army, the German Afrikakorps, and the Italian 10th Army, along with their naval equivalents.

Afrika Korps in Action

The TGW mod team has kindly agreed to allow us to make a standalone submod. In reality, most of the work is custom, but we still use a few parts of 4.5. Fortunately, this mod works with both TGW and without TGW installed, thanks to the launcher included. It will, furthermore, not interfere with your TGW installation.

Afrika Korps in Action

As a final note, big thanks to Punitor Maximus and Greek Firethrower from the War to End all Wars mod, for allowing us to use their excellent naval textures, and their slouch hat model (not yet implemented).

Sandstorm v0.5

So, without further ado, enjoy 0.5, and the first real release of a World War II Total War mod!

**We are recruiting! We could use modellers, composers, db editors, or various other skills, but we especially need another texture artist. If you are interested, please contact us via pm.**

I'd like to suggest making smaller units and more total units in an army. So like 10ish per unit but 40+ possible units.

What? This is on the African Campaign, why would Ireland be in the mod? Furthermore, this was last updated YEARS ago! They probably won't be finishing this.
