Modern Warfare Mod brings World in Conflict from the Cold War into the Modern Age. It also ups the ante on realism and authenticity in every role – Infantry, Armor, Support and Air, while trying our best to keep everything relatively balanced for fun and interesting gameplay.
Video showing improvements to the proportional navigation (PN) and overview of different guidance modes used in games for homing rockets.
Made with WiC MW Mod Developer Test #13.
I dont see how this mod could not be used to visually show/explain to pilots how their weapons system work against a vast number of different targets and situations!
Any chance you will fix the helicopter turning away from the target when the special ability is used (outside maxium range I believe). Everything is so beatiful and handles so realistic and then suddenly the helicopter just decides to break the laws of physics and logics :/
That's a good point you brought up, that actually bothered me too.
Short answer: we will get it fixed soon :) Long answer: having some technical issues with FLINT interfacing with WiC game engine, so that causes some weirdness like this, but it's not an impossible-to-fix problem, just takes time :P
It would be great if that were fixed, but I'm not all to sure if this is entirely related to the MW Mod as I recall playing without the mod, the helicopters still do the same movement when you activate their special ability.
So this is pretty cool. But do these systems exist in real life? In other words, is this realistic?
Yup, this *IS* how missiles behave in real-life ;-)
Only in stupid video games do you see missiles "chase" after their targets. In real life, almost every guided missile functions like how they are modeled in MW Mod, DCS, Lock On Flaming Cliffs, etc.
The guidance method used by MW Mod is called Augmented Proportional Navigation (APN).
You'll note that Proportional Navigation was first discovered by the U.S. Navy in 1942 during WW II while developing the first guided SAM (Lark) for ship protection; and the first missile to utilize Proportional Navigation (which is heavily used in MW Mod, for in-game guidance of missiles), is the AIM-9 Sidewinder.

if these systems did not exist in real life, a lot less airplanes would be shot down :P
