Modern Warfare Mod brings World in Conflict from the Cold War into the Modern Age. It also ups the ante on realism and authenticity in every role – Infantry, Armor, Support and Air, while trying our best to keep everything relatively balanced for fun and interesting gameplay.
Swapping of unit hitbox when suppressed; currently updating weapon effects for machine guns, etc. M240 animation is incomplete (currently using M249 animation).
wow cool at last infantry got some love XD
AAAAH this is going to be the best update evar!
why does it sounds like an AT-ST firing ?
i mean the fire from the enemys in the begining of the video
Pretty sure that's the sound of the bullets whizzing by.
@ChallengerCC
Since the Mod (or Game since it's better than the original game) is going for the Warfare part of war, you can't have squad with more than 3/5 people. Just multiple squad against air-tank-soldiers hiding on some parts of the map playing defense (of the base you control) and calling arti and air support on enemies in sight. (with the link between mostly land force and arti and then air support, you can really say it's about warfare and how every military branches is supposed to work in coordination with each other to win)
When you spoke of bigger squad, it made me think of Company of Heroes (and Warhammer 40k) but I don't think Modern Warfare these days is about how big a squad is. (as a 5-man squad have more chance to go stealthy and still being effective than a 12-man squad)
Well, just my tough :o (maybe I'm wrong)
Really?
I thought the current in game squads were really big, like 8-10 people, like their real life counterparts.
Or, at least that was the way it was last time I played it. I didn't think that there had been another update though...
Both of you are correct in these regards. Yes, the current version of the mod uses a "squad" model of 8 to 10 people.
However, the upcoming 4.2 version will get rid of this and go to a smaller "fire team" based concept, where each unit is typically 4 men. (5 max for some exceptional cases) But the units are much cheaper and can be transported by humvees, so they are overall more mobile and deployable.
While infantry is very weak, it's offset by their ability to call fire support on demand, pretty much harassing the enemy wherever they go.
Huh, okay.
I liked the big squads, but they did cause some issues when trying to move through cities, and not being able to hide in buildings!
Sounds cool, best of luck to you guys as you move forward.
P.S., glad the infantry are getting even more love!
Yea the problem you had with large squads was well noted by other players too.
Eventually, we felt that best survivability for infantry (especially in MW Mod) is mobility, not more men. Going down to smaller fire teams is better because they are substantially lot cheaper than squad-sized units; so you can spread out your assets to cover large areas.
Oh, i almost forgot to ask: How will medics be handled in this new system?
Vanilla WiC had medics in every squad, but they also had MANPADS, so I feel the need to ask, given that squads now are more specialized.
Medic is present in every fire team, but he only has standard combat rifle. Only anti-air fire team has MANPADS.
Also humvees can heal infantry, so if medic himself is injured, you can retreat to a nearby humvee for complete healing.
I will have to play again to check but yes, I tough the squad were rather small. (and focused on their strong point instead of being "balanced" -good at all but not the best at anything))
An infantry only battle sounds insteresting...
