War of the Silmarils is a sub-mod of Third Age: Total War, the ever popular total conversion for Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. The goal is to follow the lore as closely as possible and faithfully reproduce the heroic First Age of Tolkien's Middle-earth in the Medieval II: Total War engine. War of the Silmarils features many new unique factions, each complete with a roster of units, a completely new campaign map of Beleriand and the lands to the North, and much more. So if you're one of the many who have been enthralled by Tolkien's mystical world, this is a mod to watch!
Rangers of Ossiriand, elite unit hooded and cloaked in green and brown, bearing longbows with flint arrowheads and heavy bronze axes.

Arrayed in hues of earth and leaf, these elves smite their foes from afar with mighty longbows.
These elves stand as a breed apart from all the other sentries who patrol the secret ways of Beleriand. They are not charged with the watch of a single location, nor with reporting the movements of armies, though both lay well within their power. Nay, since Morgoth has darkened and made violate the nature of this world, it falls to the sons of the living to root corruption out, even if it means forfeiting one's eternal life to righteous, ever-seeking violence.
A new movement stirs in Ossiriand beneath the trees, with elves abandoning clan and home to range far beyond. Huntsmanship and war-craft are passed between peers and honed against any evil thing which may be found lurking the forests. Now there are enough of them to form battalions if asked, where they proceed to outmatch all other troops in the warband: Stronger are their bows, sharper their axes, subtler their tread, cooler their wrath. They seem almost a dark reflection of the elite Denethorian guards. It can only be hoped that there will be no need of such “rangers” in the ages to come.
