This is a 7 year right now project that started to the creation of a new fanfic faction but changed to an overhaul and expansion of the entire game. I made this mod with the idea of balanced freedom and realism (but also some what-if). There are so many characters and powers that would be enjoyable to use but are very limited in the vanilla game or in many other mods. With this project you can recruit and lead your army of MANY different units and heroes so that you could play the same faction in different ways. (Italian language default in game, but i will make the english version)

Post feature Report RSS Factions or Subfactions?

Description of the factions and subfactions feature included in this mod.

The first reason of why I didn't want to split original game's factions in more separated subfactions is because...I'm too lazy to do that.
Jokes aside, I think that EA had a good idea in the definition of these main 6 faction (8 with Angmar and Arnor) and the fact that you can recruit units from different realm or origin in the same correlated faction is awesome.

Factions or Subfactions

I'm a real fan of the War Of The Ring historical mode where the main factions wage war one another in a 3v3 strategic map confrontation.

There you control many regions and you have an army for each of your starting points.
If i play Mordor I'll have, for example, Harad, Rhun and Mordor itself of course.
Playing in a lorefriendly manner means that you should recruit only Easterling in Rhun, only Southrons in Harad and only orcs and trolls in Mordor.

Then, the Witch King flies over Minas Tirih with his army of black uruks, trolls and catapults..but the battle isn't going very well, the city is really resisent...oh wait! Here they come!
A march of Mumakils, rider of the desert and skilled archers from the south lead by their captain to turn the tide of the battle..

Well, this is why i love that game mode.

Now, this mod gives you nearly 4 subfaction for each main faction, you can play with all of them at the same time or you can choose only one, and that shouldn't deprive you of the win because every subfaction have (or will have) basic units, elite units and heroes.

Right now the subfactions are only visibles in the recruit structures, but in future i'll put an upgrade in the fortress where you can choose to play as default or with one specific subfact that changes the appearance of every other structures to reflect your choice.

That is all part of the "freedom" idea I have for that mod, no limitations in your choice, no precluded units.
It's all in your hand and YOU decide what to or not to do.

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us" as Gandalf said.

It is a very good idea to have this system because in this way you could make many strategies within the same game.

By the way, could you detail what subactions each faction will have and what their role is.

Yes, i will detail them in the next days as i upload more content.
But I can leave here a little index:
Men: Gondor, Rohan, (fallen) Arnor.
Elves: Lorien, Mirkwood, Rivendell, Lindon.
Dwarves: Erebor, Iron Hills, Dale, Ered Luin
Mordor: Mordor, Harad, Rhun and Khand.
Isengard: Isengard, Dunland
Wild: Misty Mountains, Gundabad, Ettenmoors, Spiders
Arnor: Arthedain, Cardolan, Rhudaur
Angmar: Angmar (Black Numenoreans and other dark creatures), Necromancers\Undeads, Gundabad, Corrupted (like Rhudaur).

Arnor and Angmar are very poorly modded though.

If you have Arnor as a Men subfaction why a faction of Arnor?!?

I thought to put Arnor as Men subfaction and Angmar as a Mordor or Wild subfaction (Mordor maybe the most perfectly because of Witch King)...

Great Mod because I love War of the Ring mode too

Insteresting stuff. I wonder about Isengard that has less diversity than other factions.

I know unfortunately, that is why i added many units in these only 2 subfactions, there are at least 8 units for Dunland and about 15 for Isengard (with more to come and excluding siege engine).

I understand elves's subfactions but, what is the name of Mordor's Haradrim Cage subfactions?

Rhun, Harad, (Umbar), Khand

However Umbar will probably become part of the Harad subfaction and its button removed.
