Tiberian Sun: Rubicon is a standalone mod aimed at revising and remastering the Tiberian Sun experience while keeping it true to the original.
The GDI Component Tower has never been a fan favorite. You have to order the tower, place it on the map, order one of its upgrades, and place the upgrade on the tower – only then is the tower armed and ready. When setting up your defenses, especially under a base attack, these extra steps can prove fatal.
To make things at least a little bit easier, in Rubicon the Component Tower is itself armed with a machine gun that can deal reasonable damage to infantry and light vehicles. This allows you to quickly set up a ground defense which you can then upgrade at a later time if needed. Note that once upgraded, the tower can no longer use its original machine gun.
This feature is already available in the Alpha Release. What's pictured here is a graphical revision of the tower and its build icons, designed to both better match the tower seen in beta screenshots and cinematic cutsceness, as well as convey its new role as an armed guard tower. These graphics will be included in the next update.
This is such a good visual upgrade, it definitely evokes a watchtower. Will the components themselves be getting any visual updates? Or are you happy with them as they are?
Personally I think the turrets are good as-is. Maybe a little washed out, but so are all TS buildings. I have improved the firing & weapon VFX, though, which is not shown here.
Eventually I plan to do a pass over all the buildings and add more contrast/improve the lighting, but it's a big undertaking and a low priority for now.
