I think it was suppose to be in the game, but was abandoned because it would just be a Nebula Class clone. I'm a bit surprised its being added.

I thought that the Nebula and Endurance classes came after the Republic and fulfilled different roles

It did. But gameplay wise, I don't think they wanted it at the time. But now that LotV is coming and factions are getting a lot of new stuff, I think its being added to give early era Rebellion an edge before the NSD.

The RSD was part of the first release of the mod, but was taken out over the years because it was extremely ugly. However, sicne Oseritzel did such a good job at making it not ugly its a good option to put in now

Wow! What an interesting design for the Republic class! I'm glad to see changes in the Assault Frigate. Two versions is definitely nice.

The Republic-class SD is, technically and lore-wise spoken, a late era 2 and era 3 ship and the NRs equivalent to an ISD-I.
The Nebula is an era 4/era 5 ship and the NRs equivalent to an ISD-II, although power-wise it is supposed to be stronger just like the Republic is supposed to be 20% stronger than an ISD-I.

In lore the Republic and Nebula were indeed rather similar when it came to weaponry and fighter carrying capacity, yet the Nebula had stronger armor and better engines, but was also much more expensive than the Republic-class.
In terms of numbers, the NR had vastly more Republic-class SDs than Nebulas since they were cheaper and could be built faster.

If I had to rank the big NR ships I'd do it from "weak" to "powerful":
MC80 Liberty -> MC80b -> Majestic -> Republic SD -> MC90 -> Nebula.

I remember in the Phoenix Rising mod which has both ships the Republic is more defensively aligned with the strong Mon Cal-shields plus power to shields while the Nebula is more an offensive brawler which can dish out more damage than it itself can take.

I'm also looking forward to the Invincible. The current model is already pretty nice and over hours of playing Fall of the Republic and the CSA in Phoenix Rising I grew somewhat fond of the old, giant flying stick.

IDK. The Republics were only cheaper because they were essentially rebuilt from the many ISD I and IIs that the New Republic came into possession of as the 2nd GCW unfolded.

Rather than just use the ships as is, the NR wanted to avoid associations with the Empire, and so took the time to unbuild many of them, recombining them into the republic class. Hull strength wasn't great as a result, but MC shielding helped make up for it. Relatively cheap and quick to build, but can't really take on an ISD II head to head, and may even struggle against an ISD I.

I think your ranking ("MC80 -> MC80b -> Majestic -> Republic SD -> MC90 -> Nebula.") is mostly correct, but I would switch the majestic and MC80b. Maybe even move the majestic below the MC80... it's pretty much horrible. In short, the NR should have just stuck with the Mon Monthma SD refit. More effective, less costly, and less time consuming.

Where did you get the info from that the Republic-class are rebuilt ISDs? Wookieepedia says the Republic SD is a new design created by Walex Blissex, the same guy who designed the original Victory I-class for the Old Republic.

It further says that an Republic SD costs only half of an ISD-I but boasts 20% more firepower than it thus together with the Mon Cal-shields it is easily capable of defeating an ISD-I one on one, but struggles against an ISD-II. Since it is smaller than an ISD it can however carry less troops and also sacrifices cargo space and endurance (in terms of armor).

All in all I'd describe the Republic SD as an effective ship for its price tag and it may be placed at the lower end of high tier ships overall, but it is not an endgame battle winner and can't really substitute for an MC90 or Nebula SD.

They also started building these ships shortly after the Thrawn crisis which is like two decades before the 2nd GCW. Production slowed down during the time of Dark Empire/Palpatine's return but the first batches of Republics saw use in that conflict and afterwards the NR produced so many Republics that it is hard to believe they were just refitted ISDs.
Are you sure you're not confusing this ship class with the Starhawk-class from the Disney canon which are explicitly stated to be created from salvaged Imperial ships?

When it comes to the Majestic I dunno, in lore it is described as a very powerful pocket warship that's essentially a damage sponge with excellent armor and hard shields, capable of literally playing tank. It's also a newly developed design which is also specified as a pure warship unlike the MC80 Liberty which is a converted cruise liner and the MC80b which is an interim hybrid design.
In terms of the MC-line Cruisers the MC90 is the first one to be actually designed as a pure warship from the start.

That's basicly Starhawk-class Battleship lore you've just projected on the Republic-class Star Destroyer friend.

Hmm. Definitely an acute resemblance there for sure. What's actually going on is me conflating my head canon with established legends lore again. I have had this opinion of the Republic class for years, either self-created or drawn from role-playing (can't remember now). It gets difficult to separate things later on, especially when they seem to make sense (NR is broke, how in the world did it build so many brand new ships that can magically take on ISD-1s? Makes sense if they simply stripped the weapons off captured ISDs that they didn't want to use due to fear/empire-memories and put them on a new Rendili-Calamari chassis. Lots of time and weapon costs saved). I remember being quite amused when the Starhawk essentially appropriated the context. But either way, yes, I am wrong about the Republic class lore. Regarding the Majestic, it's rapid phasing out taints much of my opinion. All on all, all of the Cracked Threat Dossier stuff is hard for me to take at face value.

It's a complete new model. The basic shape is very simple and very fast redone. Mostly it saves time to do everything new.

Looks already very promising and on a closer look it does have quite a few more details compared to the current model.

Looking forward to see the old reliable Invincible in action with an overhauled look.

When it comes to the Republic SD, it looks like it takes on a bit more Mon Cal-influences than the "usual" models of it that are around.

It does. The Republic SD was the intent to get away from the imperial design, like the Victory SD, closer to the mon Calamari and especially to the New Republic.

It does make sense lore-wise too as the NR wanted to clearly distance themselves from the Empire and its symbols.

The original Republic SD already has less "hard" edges than typical Imperial designs but still largely the "dagger"/wedge shape.
The additional little, more rounded gaps in the wedge-shape of the Republic SD help as well to get away from the typical hard frame of Imperial ships and could also be interpreted as a small homage to the Old Republic which the NR is the heir of.

More like effect for 4000 years; if a ship is still in service centuries after it was designed with only modifications being made to bring it up to modern specs then the design philosophy is solid.
