The Trenches 2 is a World War 1 Half-Life 2 Modification. Experience the dense atmosphere and breathtaking action soaking you up. Don't play the soldier, be the soldier! Participate in the biggest and bloodiest war Europe has ever seen.
Never before you have been able to experience the First World War in such an authentic and accurate environment. You will almost be able to smell the gas and feel the wet and muddy dirt slipping through your gear.

Realistic Ironsights
Ironsights will add to the realistic touch of The Trenches 2. So as in real life you won't be able to aim with a 8kg weapon for too long.
Three classes per team
Be an infantry soldier - fearless and with an accurate weapon - or be the light machine gunner - equipped with a strong automatic machinegun - or be the officer - can you lead your fellow soldiers to victory?
Individual Loadout
Choose between many items to customize your loadout. You can pick additional ammunition, a bayonett to attach to your rifle, or binoculars. Adjust to the situation in the field to dominate your enemy.
Localization
The Trenches 2 will be delivered in multiple languages. You can enjoy all the action in your tongue's language and don't have to use your expensive brainpower for translations while you play.

The development of The Trenches 2 is back on track!
I have assigned tasks to almost all teammembers including me and we are good. Unfortunately we had to cut some stuff from the first release in the sake of getting it out the door at all. But the key features, as described here and on the mod homepage at Thetrenchesmod.net will be in.
We decided to open up a dev blog on our homepage so you can follow our latest progress. Our devs already posted update reports on weapon modelling (Stiehlhandgranate), mapping (trench prototype) and coding.

yeah, i mean, there was ONE ww1 game a while back, necrovision, but the actual war quickly got lost in the orgy of zombies and daemons, it was a fun game though.
but like i said, its nice to see a few modding teams banding together to make some good old, bolt action, trench warfare action.
one thing, ww1 would make an ok rts, wouldnt it? the unit types might lack variety, but you have the basic special abilitys for infantry (mad minute for the brits, as an example)
but an fps is good anyway, and a bolt action rifle as a main weapon can create a lot of panic for the player, (i.e: he misses and has to cycle the bolt, giving the enemy time to put a hole in his face) so its a lot more about getting that shot right.
it just seems wrong that there are so few ww1 games, know what i mean?

is nice to actually see a ww1 mod out there, considering that the gits in hollywood have everyone thinking that the second war was better material for games/movies.
why, for gods sake arent there more ww1 games out there? why cant we go back to the days when moustaches were cool? why cant they make a trench system RTS?
still, its refreshing to see that SOMEONE out there apprieciates the first war.
