The Silent Cartographer: Evolved is a ground-up reimagining of the classic Halo level. Along with an almost entirely custom content base, including high-fidelity models, textures, animations, visual effects, and sound design, TSC:E features all-new environments, a finely-tuned gameplay sandbox, and a wide array of well-hidden secrets.
Includes every tag from the full source release except the TSC:E scenario, plus source scripts for T&R: Revisited and Precipice. Works with the stock Custom Edition HEK.
This source release is compatible with the stock Custom Edition HEK! It contains:
- Every tag used in TSC:E, a50_redux, and Precipice, minus Open Sauce-specific tags and the TSC:E scenario.
- Script source files for a50_redux and Precipice.
- Bonus multiplayer-friendly tags.
- Bonus "h1_spirit" tags, replicating the vanilla Halo sandbox with TSC:E assets.
- Bonus weapon prototypes that didn't make it into TSC:E.
- Any other tags we had lying around, that weren't deleted for being broken / unused.
Here's what everything is:
- /data/ contains source scripts for a50_redux & Precipice.
- /doc/ contains informal notes on what we did, and why. Please read the IMPORTANT notes before using any tags!
- /tags/ contains the tags.
- /util/ contains a few helpful tools we put together during development.

Install guide:
"I want to use these tags with MCC!"
These tags are not officially compatible with the Master Chief Collection's HEK. Check out the official MCC release via Steam Workshop, and its MCC-specific source release, at Tsce.info!
"I want to use these tags with Custom Edition!"
You'll need to install Custom Edition, patch 1.0.10, and the HEK, in that order. You'll also need a complete stock tagset: we use a lot of stock tags that aren't included in the barebones HEK install.

Once everything is installed:
1. Drop /cmt/ into your /tags/ folder.
2. Back up your globals.globals, and replace it with the appropriate tag in /cmt/globals/ -- e.g, h1_spirit.globals for h1_spirit tags.
After that, you should be good to go.

We've omitted the TSC:E scenario and its scripts from this release because the map cannot build without Open Sauce. While we have an MCC port up and running internally, we can't actually produce a release until 343 raises MCC tool's model data limit to at least 48 MB. (It is currently 32 MB).
We've done our best to separate "balance-affecting" tags from their models, textures, and so on. Generally speaking:
- Anything in an /evolved/ folder is specifically balanced for TSC:E. Don't just mix and match these with stock HCE, or other mods! It won't work! Read "IMPORTANT - Evolved damage scale.txt" in the /doc/ folder if you want to know how to use them properly.
- Anything in an /h1_spirit/ folder replicates stock Halo 1 behavior as closely as possible. It's fine to mix these with stock HCE, or other mods that integrate with stock HCE. Read /doc/bonus tags/h1_spirit.txt if you want to know more.
- If you're making a multiplayer map, anything ending in "_mp" should *always* be used in favor of its non-mp equivalent. Otherwise, your map will be subject to weird broken behavior, crashes, or worse.
- All other tags should be free to use as you see fit.
