All tags, scripts, and custom tools used to develop TSC:E's MCC edition -- plus more bonus tags, like multiplayer variants, cut weapons, and all content used in T&R: Revisited and Precipice.
The Silent Cartographer: Evolved - Source Release (MCC)
By: Evolved Team
Website: Tsce.info
Discord: #the-silent-cartographer-evolved channel on the Reclaimers server
This release includes:
- All tags and scripts used to build the MCC editions of TSC:E, Truth & Reconciliation: Revisited, and Precipice.
- Many additional MCC-compatible bonus tags, including discarded prototypes, multiplayer-friendly weapon variants, and more.
- The Evolved team's custom MCC development tools.
- All Excession and source-release metadata used to build our mod packages and source release archives.
- Comprehensive documentation for all of the above: just open /documentation/index.html in your web browser of choice.
If you're looking for source models & textures, we've collected as many as we can in a separate release, which you can find here.
Using the Release
"I just want some of the tags!"
Grab /data/ and /tags/ from the evolved-mcc/ folder, and drop them into your HEK directory. That's it!
This won't replace any stock stuff: all Evolved content is self-contained in /cmt/ sub-directories.
If you need to, don't forget to replace globals.globals with one of our substitutes (in /cmt/globals/). Be sure to make a backup first!
"I want to develop / port maps using Evolved content!"
You can do everything except build the TSC:E scenario by just copying /data/ and /tags/, but for any serious development of Evolved or H1-Spirit maps, we'd recommend you set up the Evolved Tools.
- Install Python 3.11 or newer, if you haven't already: Python.org
- If customizing your installation, ensure that the py launcher and tcl/tk support are both checked.
- Stick evolved-mcc/ somewhere outside your HEK folder.
- Run setup_tools.bat. This will junction the source release to your HEK, allowing them to interoperate.
- Open the Evolved Tools GUI to get started! All commands include thorough help text.
This was our official development environment, and offers many handy benefits, including but not limited to:
- An upgrade to tool build-cache-file's vertex / index buffer limit, allowing the TSC:E scenario to be built.
- Automatic management of custom globals tags, both when building maps and launching halo_tag_test.
- Automatic setup of ModManifest.txt without requiring Excession, allowing maps to be easily built and played locally in MCC.
- One-click packaging of source release archives, including automatically building HTML documentation.
You can then fully undo tools setup at any time by running the Clean task.
