The Great War is a modification for Company of Heroes meant to bring the war two decades earlier. This mod focuses on the later years of the First World War. Currently the two teams will be the British Expeditionary Force against the German Empire, however with time the team will try and bring some more nations in, such as France and Austria-Hungary. This mod will focus or realism but keep the game balanced enough to make it enjoyable. Things to look for in the mod are the famous artillery strikes and the infamous gas attacks. Trenches will provide vital cover for infantry while tanks will roll over the battlefield and instil fear into the enemy troops.

looking great, apart from slightly too wide, although i suspect that is due to engine limitations?

Aye, it’s quite a bit wider than the 3’6’’ recommended in “Notes for infantry officer on trench warfare”. That and not deep enough, and lacking a fire step. But as you said there are engine limitations. If we make them any tighter, movement along the trenches become impossible.

Just thinking, maybe they should make a WW1 DLC for CoH...

But in the update you told us that tanks can drive over these.
These trenches are quite huge, and probably only the biggest tanks, maybe not even those, could cross these huge holes. Im not only speaking about realism, also about gameplay. A tank almost "flying" over these trenches would look horrible ;)

A Mark IV tank has a trench crossing capacity of 3.5m. It would cross ours without trouble.
The medium Mk A “whippet” (2.13m) and Renault FT (1.8m) would barely make it, but it’s still within believable margins. Only the A7V and the French heavy tanks would be in trouble, but they’ll have other means (which will allow us to balance them out).
Armoured cars can’t cross at all, which is absolutely intentional.

“Flying” isn’t quite how I’d describe it. It looks more like they’re crawling along. But trust me, it looks fine ingame.

some britisch tanks had a sort of 'bridges' they could deploy over the trenches.

Called a Fascine, a bundle of wood or other material, thrown into the trench and driven over.

Just a suggestion I'm not sure if this has been implemented yet. But maybe a darker gloomier look to it. This looks a little colorful. Along with how dark, muddy, and gloomy no man land should be. Just a suggestion

That's something that depends on each map's individual atmosphere setting. It's not something that can be modded broadly.

are enemy soldiers able to get down the trench and fight hand to hand with the defenders?

you know what's missing from the above image? an MG team and a couple of mortars (the 15 inch ones used during ww1) but i suspect the 15 inch mortar would be overkill in a trench that deep haha, but still i like the image and would like to see more screens maybe of a tank or something mowing down soldiers?
Also was it the MK IV tank in WW1 (historically speaking)? i always thought that particular tank you used as reference for the mk IV was a MK I tank (yes i know its not in the image above but still would look cool rolling across a section of trench in the pic)
