This latest update to the mod brings a lot of new and exciting content, new features, as well as many updates, improvements, fixes, and more! You can read the latest news article to find more details on some of the biggest updates, and a full changelog will be provided on the download page as well as in the mod package.
Installation Instructions:
If you have installed the mod before, you must delete any previous versions of the mod and start a new game. Never overwrite any files or try to play a saved game from a previous version of the mod.
- Download the winrar package called, "The American Civil War Mod Revived v1.8", and save it to your desktop or another preferred destination that you can easily access.
- Open the package and extract the folder inside called, "The American Civil War Mod Revived", to your modules folder ( default location should be, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MountBlade Warband\Modules").
- Start Mount & Blade: Warband, select the mod from the drop down menu, and play!
You can join the mod's discord server here: Discord.gg
- New historical battlefields: Manassas (Bull Run), Shiloh, Franklin, Mechanicsville (Gaines' Mill), and Pea Ridge.
- Rome, Perryville, Newport, Pea Ridge, Harper's Ferry, Hillsborough, and Terre Haute village scenes overhauled.
- Selma, Columbia, Alexandria, Hodgenville, Clarksville, Fayetteville, Williamsport, and Wilmington village scenes improved.
- Harrisburg castle scene replaced with a fort.
- New Weapons: Colt Revolving Rifle, Morse Carbine, M1819 Hall Rifle, Whitney Navy Revolver, Spiller & Burr Revolver, Volcanic Pistol, Moore Patent Revolver.
- World map completely overhauled, with topography more closely matching real world maps of North America and more trees. (Big thanks to Luke_SkyOtter for his excellent work on this!)
- Freelancer added; players can now join AI armies as an enlisted soldier. The player will still retain control of the army though, because the AI is not smart enough to command and just gets everyone killed by making suicidal charges.
- New system of AI combat behavior, which should make the enemy AI more aggressive in battles, help them to stick together as a group, and prefer shooting rather than blindly charging and immediately going into melee. System is not perfect, however; please refer to the list of known issues for more information.
- Added patrons, musicians, and prostitutes to taverns.
- New war cry added to Union faction. Player must be a member of a faction to use the war cry ability.
- Player can now recruit veteran troops from cities if they have high enough renown (500) and enough money to afford them. Must also have at least 10 available slots in the party; no more than 10 veterans can be recruited from a city at one time.
- Villages will now spawn soldiers instead of farmers to help fight off raiding armies. Soldiers will spawn in villages after several days in-game.
- Village garrisons will always fight against the player, no matter what, making it more difficult for the player to simply burn villages across a faction's territory unopposed. Also gives players an opportunity to fight on village scenes and have something to do outside of fighting armies in the field. Likewise when defending your own faction's villages, the extra 50 men garrisoning the village will help you in battle.
- Player can now join into any battle, on any side, regardless of faction relations.
- New landmarks at Gettysburg: Farnsworth House and Jennie Wade House.
- Whiskey, rum, ale, coffee, tobacco, pork, and venison are now consumable items.
- Various new hats.
- New civilian outfits.
- New horses.
- The option to build a watch tower in villages has been replaced with building earthworks and fortifications, along with an appropriate description replacing the old one. This change suits much more to the provided benefit to the village, which is that it can hold out against being looted for 50% longer.
- New after death camera.
- Charlotte and Louisville terrain fixed.
- Missing exit from NYC prison fixed.
- Confederate kepis with yellow trim removed from infantry units, replaced with kepis with blue trim. Historically, Confederate kepis with yellow trim were for cavalry, blue trim was for infantry.
- New uniform for Confederate General A.P. Hill, based on the red shirt he wore historically.
- New song for travelling in eastern Confederate territory.
- Fixed white spots that would show up on Union uniforms when looked at from a distance.
- Tent icon when camping on the world map fixed.
- Wandering poets dialogue on courtship information updated.
- 12-Pounder and 24-Pounder howitzers added, with new model.
- Enemy party size reports changed to "company/battalion/regiment/brigade/division sized group of enemies spotted near ..."
- Bandits and AI generals party sizes increased.
- Player party size increased.
Voice Commands Instructions (optional):
- First, you will need to download and install a program called "VoiceBot" from here: Voicebot.net. This program is for free and will be fully functional for this purpose. It can also be used for other games as well. There are some limitations to the free version, but nothing that prevents you from using and enjoying the program with this mod.
- After installing VoiceBot, you will need to import the voicebot profile that I included in the mod package. This can be done by going to the settings in the program and you will see a button for importing and exporting profiles. Extract the voicebot profile folder to the desktop or your preferred destination, click import in the voicebot program, find where you extracted the voicebot profile and import the profile inside of the folder. I have also included the sound files for the bugle calls, I'm not sure if the sounds will play in the program without them. The folder can simply be placed on the desktop for quick and easy reference.
- After the profile is imported, I strongly recommend you familiarize yourself with the commands, and if you prefer to use a different voice command to execute an order, you can change it to another word by editing the macro.
- You should also train your microphone to recognize your voice, if you haven't done so already, because VoiceBot relies on speech recognition software that is used for voice-to-text programs, so it may not always recognize your voice, especially if your computer has never heard your voice before.
- When using the program, it is possible to use a built in microphone, however a headset or a separate mic is preferred because it picks up your voice more clearly. You should also make sure there is as little background noise as possible so that it does not interfere with the microphone recognizing your words.
- You can press play to make the program start to listen and press pause to make it stop. You can easily alt+ tab in game to turn it off when you are not in combat or don't want to use it.
- For more detailed instructions on how to use the VoiceBot program, please refer to their website.
- With the new update integrating bugle calls into the mod, you will want to deactivate the appropriate sound effects in voicebot so that the two sounds do not overlap in-game.
Bonus Gameplay Tips
Be warned, the adjustments to troop sizes and the corpse limit, can cause your game to slow down and/or crash, especially on slower, lower end, or older systems.
- To increase battle size: If you would like to have larger battles than the maximum of 150 allowed by Mount & Blade: Warband, then you will need to download and install a program called Warband Battle Size Changer (The installer is now included in the mod package). You can experiment with larger battles, but anything more than 300 will usually cause crashes.
- To have infinite corpses: If you would like to have infinite bodies on the battlefields, you will need to download and install a program called Cheat Engine from here. When you start cheat engine, you will need to simultaneously run M&B: Warband. Select "open process" under file, or by clicking the button with a magnifying glass over a desktop screen, and choose M&B: Warband. Then in the empty field under "Value", type in 00861920 and click "First Scan". That address controls what the maximum amount of corpses are before they disappear. Right click and add that address to your address list. Click the address on your list, press enter, type in the maximum amount of bodies you want to have (it will automatically replace the value), press enter again, and then click the checkbox under "Active". Alt+Tab back into the game, and you're ready to play. You must have cheat engine running and that address active every time you start the game and throughout your time playing it in order for the changes to work. Also every time you start the game, you will need to re-enter the value for the number of corpses and activate it.
- To instantly build an army: If you would like to instantly build an army, or even have hundreds or even thousands of men in your party, you can also use cheat engine, and follow these instructions. Having massive armies beyond your maximum capacity will, however, result in morale problems and desertions. It is good for when you want to just jump right in and play, or test out one of the new custom battlefields on your own without needing to rely on AI generals to support you to have a big battle.
- To use free camera in battles: You can use a free camera in battles by pressing Ctrl + E to use the editor camera. (You must have editor mode activated in your Warband launcher for this to work). Press H after the camera activates to go into the cinematic camera mode, and you can drag the editor panel into the corner of your screen so it is completely out of the way. Unfortunately you'll have to exit this mode with ctrl + E in order to use the order panel; the camera and the order panel can't be used simultaneously. The editor panel will remain in the corner of your screen until you move it again or restart the game. Please be aware that this will conflict with the new after death camera that has been added to the mod, so if you use this method and try to exit the camera, the camera will be messed up and only work again in the same battle by re-entering the editor camera.
Issues related to source code changes:
- One of the most tragic and unfortunate losses to the mod is artillery. Currently it gives repeating error reports, and only player artillery seems to function at the moment. Even still, the player's artillery does not always spawn and may instead only spawn the crews by themselves.
- Related to the issues with artillery, the player must now also recruit new crew members in cities any time one of the crew is killed in battle. Considering how vulnerable the crews are, and how often they take casualties, this is a serious annoyance and the old system where crews were automatically replenished was preferable.
- Custom battles are unfortunately not working for now, because the factions do not spawn their troops correctly.
- The way resource production works in the mod has been changed, however this is not a perfect system as some goods show up far too often and there tends to be a lack of food, especially in the South. Though this is arguably accurate to history, as the Confederacy did focus on producing cotton and tobacco instead of food, and this caused their armies to often go hungry, I think it is a bit too much that there is almost no food being produced at all in the South. To mitigate this, I recommend buying cattle and slaughtering them for their meat, or going hunting, or buying/looting food in the villages where it is available.
- Related to the production problems, hard tack crates don't seem to show up anywhere except in the Indian territories.
- Enemy AI combat behavior is not perfect. They seem to be a bit too aggressive and are not very good at using formations. One could argue this is preferable to the old system, where the AI would hold at their spawn, however this has also had the unintended consequence of ruining much of the tactical and strategic gameplay that existed in previous versions of the mod. In all honesty, it is up to you as the player to decide if you like it or not, because there are some merits to this new system, just as much as there are flaws.
- Native Americans are supposed to have their own war cry, however it does not seem to work anymore, and the sound effect does not play when activated.
- We added a system for fast travel, however this is not functioning properly, with some of the ticket sellers not spawning in town centers.
Previously existing issues:
- Petersburg scene still causes crashes during battles. The entire scene will be scrapped and replaced in a future update.
- Indianapolis town center crashes and may also have to be scrapped and redone. Crashes that may occur in other town centers can be mitigated by lowering your graphical settings.
- Tournaments are unfinished and should not be bothered with. Tournaments may even be removed entirely in the future.
- AI armies will still sometimes use too many flagbearers, though this should not be as bad as it was before.
- When the player and AI shoot rifles, they will sometimes get stuck in the aiming position for a few seconds after firing.
- The war itself is a bit lopsided in favor of the Confederacy at the moment, due to the amount of factions on the map, but I plan to eventually add a new faction to the Union to balance this out.
- Carbines use the muzzle loading animation and unfortunately this slows down their reloading speed. Hopefully this can be fixed at some point.
- There are black edges on some scene backgrounds.
- Foot steps sound effects were removed because they were hogging up all the sound channels and causing gunfire sound effects in battles to randomly cut out and go silent. This can potentially be fixed in the future.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can you add a feature I want from another mod?
A: I am not an experienced coder, so I can't make any promises about that. Maybe it is possible at some point in the future, but we'll just have to see how things go. The more complex the feature you are asking for, the less likely it is to happen.
Q: Will you be adding new units to the mod?
A: I was originally going to get some help adding a new recruitment system to the mod that would have allowed me to add as many new units as could be desired, however the person who had offered to help me had things in real life that came up, and I don't know when or if they will be able to return to help with that. As things stand right now, there is only enough room in the troop tree for two more Confederate units, so you may see that appear in a future update.
Q: Can you add a troop tree to the mod?
A: There are far too many different units, and the troop tree branches off a lot from the different tiers of veterancy for all the standard units, so an in-game troop tree is not really feasible. I have, however, been considering for a while now writing up a troop guide that will list all the different unique units in the mod which would include photos of the units and a very brief description, including their location in the troop tree. If I can get around to it finally, I'll upload it here on Moddb as a separate article; most likely two different articles for the Union and Confederate troops. For now, you can simply refer to the old news articles where the different units were revealed, and at the bottom of their regimental histories is a short description with their location in the troop tree.
Thank you for the new version! I read the description, and it seems opponents might be a bit more aggresive in battles - as for me it's good because seeingwhen so often they just form a line on their very edge of the battlefield on the hill was not that cool.
You're welcome, I'm happy to hear you like it! My goal is to one day get the AI to actually form proper lines and move around the map as a group. Right now they still kind of attack as a mob, though they at least seem to prefer to avoid melee combat and keep their distance to shoot. When they do that, they kind of get into a line, but it still tends to look very disorganized. At least they attack now instead of holding at their spawn.
This is some really exciting progress.
Help. When i download it downloads as a web page and when i open it, it starts another download loop. How do i fix this, it doesnt download as a file, but as a icon for microsoft edge.
Hey I know you sent a message on discord asking for help about this, let us know if you managed to download the mod or not. We're still willing to try to help you if you need it.
Na i still cant. I think i need a zip app or something like that...
Try using winrar or 7zip and see if that works. Feel free to post in the discord again if you need more help.
Awesome! Thanks for the updates & i'm looking forward to playing & streaming your great mod again ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. Freelancer Huzzah! - MSwarlord
Thank you, glad you are enjoying the mod! :)
Btw I have a question do I need the Viking conquest Dlc for this mod cuz I already have Napoleonic wars Dlc, I'm really excited on Trying to Test the Game out ^^
edit i tested it out it is AMAZING but i have a problem theres a bug when i interact with something sometimes the game would crash and i would be on my desktop Home Screen but atleast the mod works
Oh and also the bridge doesn't work
No DLC required, just M&B Warband. If you get crashes, you just need to lower your graphics settings.
The bug with the bridges I am aware of and working on a solution. I may have already found the culprit, but I still need to test it. For now you'll just have to cheat a little bit and teleport over to the other side.
Thank you, and have fun with the mod! :)
Ohh aighty And Yes I am having fun waiting for future updates btw ^^ and no Problem and btw how do you turn into a General I just need to wait for the promotion right?
Yes, it's the same as normal M&B. Keep fighting and eventually you'll get an offer for promotion.
Ahhh aight Thanks ^^
