Tellurian is a mod for Impossible Creatures which we hope will: 1). Balance IC, so that as many stock creatures are as useful as possible. 2). Fill out the IC genetic library with new, interesting stock creatures that are useful without being overpowered. 3). Provide a whole new experience without sacrificing the fundamental feel of IC. 4). Introduce modelling and modding techniques which have never before been available to anyone besides the Impossible Creatures developers themselves. 5). Be continually updated, and improved, so that no creatures remain overpowered or "abused" for long. It is important to note that we're striving for professionalism, here. That means proper science-y creature bios and mostly sensible abilities-- though some sacrifices have to be made in the name of balance.

Regarding the recent launch of Steam Workshop support for IC.

Posted by on

Last night, Nordic Games officially launched Steam Workshop support for Impossible Creatures. This will revolutionize the way updates for Tellurian (and all mods) are handled from now on. Anyone subscribed to the content on the Workshop will receive updates as soon as they are posted. This allows us to create hotfixes and patches as often as we like, without having to push a new version, or else queue them up for later when the time for a new patch comes. This makes life a thousand times easier for us, the devs, and you, the players.

The bad news is that only Steam users will benefit from this transition. GoG users and those yet to upgrade from their hard copies will be stuck with the fixed versions of the mod provided on this page. Because of that, this page isn't going away.

The real problem this creates is that of compatibility in mutiplayer matches. Eventually, the version of the mod on the Workshop will differ from what has been uploaded here on ModDB and the two versions will no longer be compatible, despite sharing the same modname. We have discussed this amongst ourselves, and unfortunately have not come up with any terrific solutions. What is likely to happen is that Tellurian will essentially be split into two completely independent versions: the dynamic version released on the Steam Workshop, and the static version that we have uploaded to this site. This way, players can still play some version of Tellurian online if they have acquired the game from different platforms.

It's not an ideal solution, but it's the best we have so far. If you have a better idea, we'd love to hear it in the comments.

Lastly, here's a link for Tellurian on the Workshop: Steamcommunity.com
