Post news Report RSS v5.0 Progress Update

Another update, albeit a little later than planned, for Sven Co-op v5.0 has been posted along with an introductory video to an upcoming feature.

Posted by on

Remember that news update we promised to deliver many weeks ago? Of course you don't, but in case you do, we are sorry. We ran out of Ritalin for our trained team of monkeys who write our news updates, and the only one who could hold his concentration long enough to write a news update was our top monkey Nih, who is writing right now.

In this small update we would like to just go over a couple of the new features that are in store for 5.0. First on the table is Toon Run. Its creator Koelzk, has returned to give this beloved map series a makeover. Some areas have been reworked and some areas are completely new. And there are some pretty imaginative ideas. We're not going to spoil the entire surprise, but we are going to show you a couple of screenshots:

Next on the table is "item_inventory". This game entity can be seen in the change log we posted earlier, but we would like to introduce it a bit more. To this purpose, AdamR has recorded a video where he demonstrates some of the possible uses, seen below. We hope to be able to demonstrate how this feature can be used in a real map in our initial release.

That is all for now. We hope to be able to deliver another news update at some unspecified point in the near-to-far future. Perhaps before Christmas?.. Scratch that, let's just say near-to-far future.

Are Afraid of Monster servers going to be working? Cause I can't connect to one.

Yes, an official return of Afraid of Monsters DC would definitely be welcomed and could probably benefit from all the new features and content being thrown into the new 5.0 update. Lets just hope that bringing the server back is in the plans.

Is a portable turret something that can be made with this function? Something like pick up compact inactive turret, turret appears on your back, drop item which then spawns an active turret which will defend.

Oh God , yes please! That would be great!

This wouldn't be very easy to make with just this entity alone, but you could certainly implement it with a custom entity on the scripting platform.

You do have a point , but the idea of a portable turret is great in general. When it comes to FPS games , everyone likes badass looking militairy machinery(like turrets).

Something like this Youtube.com would work just aswell , makes me wonder why you(the devs) didnt pickup this idea so many years ago.

I'd venture to say because it falls more under the category of mapping than modding.

Some items just need a "use" function, it opens up a slew of possibilities, aside from deployables(Quad Damage, anyone?).
I hope an "activate" key makes its way into the inventory system by the time it's out.
