"Chams inherit the bloodline from the ancient Kingdom of Champa, the kingdom which used to locate at the south of Vietnam coast. Chams have been long-time unmatched seafarers and warlike people. They numerously waged war against their neighbor states, such as Angkor and Dai Viet state. Traditionally, Chams believed in Hinduism but later they adopted Islam as their main religion.
Around 1471 AD., Dai Viet army furiously invaded and forced Champa Kingdom into her doom. After the destruction of Champa Kingdom, Chams began to take part in Suvannabhumi's political influence as mercenaries
According to the historical information, Cham mercenary had quite major role in Ayutthaya Kingdom as the volunteering regiment of Cham, one of the six famous volunteering regiment. Numerous times, they acted as the infantry unit or the naval unit. Cham mercenary maintained in service until early 20th century."
