Overview

Starship Troopers: Blood Pack is a single-player mod for the Half-Life 2 Source Engine. It will utilize every aspect of the Half-Life 2 Source Engine to create a unique first person shooter. As the game progress’s, the player will be experiencing a different gaming experience through the use of astonishing level design, superb scripted sequences, and strong gameplay mechanics.

The player begins the game during graduation week at the mobile infantry school. They will need to take their final exams and be assigned to a division in the mobile infantry based on their test scores. (note: Blood Pack is a linear single player game so the illusion of being able to play the game over as a different career path will need to be strong)

The player will take part in the graduation ceremonies and the next day they will be shipped off to their respected academy. The player will ultimately arrive at boot camp for Citizens training.

Through the trials of boot camp the player will be trying to earn squad leader and facing the hardships of various training exercises. Two weeks before the final graduation of Citizens Training the “bugs” launch a major offensive causing the academy to enlist the under graduated citizens.

This turns out to be a complete disaster. The player is put right into the action with his fellow mates from the academy. The counter-attack to the “bugs” offensive is a complete failure. The player must survive an all out slaughtering of the mobile infantry unit and wait for a rescue team.

The player will return to a nearby starship and wait for new orders. The player will be gaining the confidence of his superiors through the bravery ship and courage that they showed at the blood bath.

The player and the remaining citizens from his academy are reassigned to the “Blood Pack”. The Blood Pack is an infamous group of misfits, known for their suicidal track record and their ability to perform under the most dangerous circumstances.

Under the leadership of General J.G Shepherd the Blood Pack is assigned to their most crucial mission. They must secure a city on Neptron Prime that has been over flooded with "Bugs". The city was home to 3 million people and the federation has limited contact to a small band of survivors on the planet. The mobile infantry has nick named the city “Bug Town” due to all the "Bugs" and rescue for the cities inhabitants seems bleak.

The Blood Pack is sent on a suicidal rescue mission into the heart of “Bug Town” in an attempt to heroically rescue the remaining civilians. The rescue attempt goes sour and the Blood Pack gets scattered in the depths of Bug Town. It is up to the player to lead fellow mates and civilians to a rendezvous point to gather with the remaining survivors of the Blood Pack and wait for extraction. At the extraction all hell breaks loose they are forced to make a valiant stand against the “Bugs” as they wait for pick-up. The pick-up arrives not a minute too late and the remaining Blood Pack and the Bug Town survivors are herded onto the rescue ships by a swarm of “Bugs”. The daring escape and rescue of the Blood Pack has gained them renowned respect from the mobile infantry.

Gameplay

The game play in SST:BP is very diverse. It ranges from an arcade style frag fest to a tactical squad based first person shooter game. Starship Troppers: Blood Pack is entirely focused around the player and it’s linear story.

The game starts off by the player needing to answer questions in a mock exam on different subjects. The subjects range from the Anatomy of a Bug to Math, and even Game Theory and Design. This gameplay is entitled to be refreshing and give the player the illusion of multiple paths in the game, however, no matter what the player does they will be enlisted to the Citizens and need to attend Boot Camp.

At Boot Camp the player will be trying to prove himself to his superiors in an attempt to acquire a higher rank. The player will be introduced to the squad based elements through various training exercises.

The training gets abruptly cut off and the player is sent into the action with incomplete training. This stage of the game the player needs to follow the orders of his commander, but the entire counterstrike turns into one extremely large bloodbath. The player gets to show off some of their bug killing skill as they survive the bloodbath and return to safety.

The player then is shipped to the Blood Pack with some respect in hopes of joining the Pack on their suicidal rescue mission. As the player progresses through Bug City they will be building up their reputation within the Blood Pack.

When the initial rescue goes sour it is up to the player to take on some leadership. At this point in the game the Blood Pack has been split up into three groups. The player takes control as leader of one of the split up groups and is trying to lead his group to a rendezvous point for pick-up.
