Meant to replace wormholes but that may change in the future.

Interesting design, Looks slightly Ori-ish.
I only mean this as an observation, but the textures on this model seem a little flat. Is that on purpose or will there be more depth on the model when it is in game? Been really, really impressed with everything else so far so just curious why this one looks different.

No texture on the model yet, that was just basic color added onto the model through 3ds Max.

My first thought when I saw this was something similar to the Borg Transwarp Hubs in STA3, a rapid way to cross space with your fleet on occupied worlds.
may i suggest using these to create your own phaselane network? linking all the systems you build them in.
