The smallest of these, at 1231 meters is the Golan I, pictured on the left. This platform is sufficient to handle most small corvette and frigate raids, however anything larger is capable of overpowering them. The second, almost twice as large at 2158 meters, is the Golan II pictured on the right. Although its damage output increase is not directly proportional to its size increase over the Golan I, its hull integrity is far superior and as a result is able to win against most enemy cruisers in a one on one situation.
The final iteration, at 2600 meters, is the Golan III Space Defense Novagaun. This platform is extremely powerful and durable, and capable of holding off even many capital ship types. These have historically been found only at the most important of planets, such as Coruscant, Bastion and Muunilinst. Used in concert with a well-organized fleet, Golans can create a defensive position around a planet which is extremely difficult to penetrate.

Damn those are big defenses.
Absolutely awesome modeling, I can't freaking wait until the release :D!!!
so will planets be locked a single golan III?
Although it might not be representative of how things work upon release, I can see at least three Golan III's in the fourth screenshot above.
They function as defensive emplacements. These are not the equivalent of Starbases in base Sins, so no.
I should have clarified, I meant how many tactical slots would it take. similar to how most ( I think all) planetoids are restricted in the vanilla game to one superweapon by the amount of slots it occupies. Or is this still not decided?
We're way to early to have finalized any tactical slot costs and such, but definitely way more than one per planet if you fill the tactical slots with only them.
It's beaaaaauuutifuuuul...
Absolutly...perfect...
