As release fast approaches, the team has been hard at work on various areas of the mod...
Then the update happened and the new DLC Stellar Phenomenon.
As you could imagine this has set upon some new challenges for us and when Tech opened up the mod the amount of errors totalled up to 80GB of error reports. So what exactly does this DLC do? Well for a start it adds random events which can be triggered by player actions or can happen randomly. For example a magnetic storm could hit one of your systems and as a result all abilities in the planets gravity well are disabled. Or there could just be a galactic wide economic downturn.
As a result this got the team discussing the possibilities of this new event system, how could we take advantage of this and what can be done to make it feel more Star Trek. We have some ideas in the works but at the moment we are still figuring out what can be done and we'll discuss these at a later date when we have something to show.
The DLC also added new stellar objects, each of these effect your ships in different ways either to your benefit or hindrance. They certainly look the part and add a welcome variety to the sins formula, so you'll have some new tactical considerations to take into account in combat.
So what effect has this had on the mod? Well on that note it's really good news, Tech spent most of the night fixing the errors and sorting out the mess it had left the mod and after a few bumps it's back up and running to how it was before. Everything is stable once more and development of assets continue at a rapid pace with Max working hard on Borg models. Mindwipe has added more music as well as fixed some interface problems the new DLC threw up.
Do not fret though if you don't have the new DLC a test was done to make sure it works without it and it does. You just won't be able to access the modified content designed for the DLC.
We'd love to hear from you what you think would make good random events and any questions you have will be answered as always by us. Because that's how we roll.
i don't really know what kind of stuff the dlc adds. but maybe you could try to make the plasma storms from ds9 (i mean the badlands) with the new space anomaly's
That's a great idea. I'm not sure how easy making a particle effect that detailed would be but it's certainly worth looking into. Well done and thanks for the contribution :)
anytime. big star trek fan my self.
Not sure whether any of these would fit with the DLC stuff but major events might be:
Crystalline Entity (Next Gen)
Omega Particle Explosion (Voyager)
Warp Rift (NG) (Damaged Space due to warp travel, warp travel no longer possible)
Care Taker Wave (Voyager)
Worm Holes [stable/unstable]
Kraken Cloud (Voyager) I might be wrong on the name, it was an entity that 'ate' ships by pretending to be what they wanted. In the case of voyager this was a wormhole back to earth.
i don't think omega particles would work.
if i remember correctly, after the explosion. warp travel is not possible for hundreds of years.
We've already discussed several of these ideas. I won't ruin it, but I'm fairly sure one of them will be featuring.
The Crystalline Entity would seem to be a great fit for the new event system. The idea that someone had below about Species 8472 also sounds great.
What about Q showing up with his weird space cage and delaying your ships in that gravity well from leaving for a while?
Lh3.ggpht.com
Also that subspace cloud would be another nice anomaly (Voyager) that swallowed that Mars shuttle.
is the graviton ellipse what ur referring to, havent re-watched voyager in a bit?
Not sure if this would work but how about a species 8472 rift opens and some of there ships come in and occupy that system until destroyed
I like that Idea. We'll see what max thinks about it :)
I don't think it is possable but how about a time rift? I remember a TNG episode where the enterprise got stuck in a time loop with a ship from 70 years in the past.
So have a time rift where where ships fall into the time rift and reappear at random times.
As I say I doubt you could do it but you have to admit it sounds cool.
Also you guys are awesome for geting the mod compatable again so quickly :)
Hey on a scale of 1 to 10 10 being max how powerful is the borg 10, 50, 100 infinity
Depends on the stage of the game you're playing at. To start with? they're a solid 7, endgame? easily enough to assimilate you and all your friends.
COSMIC STRING! D:
Do it! D:
on that kind of idea i wonder if the nexus could be an event. not sure exactly what it would do, maybe damage ships and infrastructure or reduce planet pop?
how about random plagues hitting your worlds? like medical emergencies? or stray comets or asteroids that will hit your planet(random) if you don't stop them?
But there will still be a release for 1.52 right?
no there won't. The official game (especially the one bought through stem) auto updates, and is thus at 1.80 already.
Unless you're packing an illegitimate version? If you are, se don't support that. you like the mods? Support the game developer by buying the game.
I do use the Steam version, I just figured since you're already pretty far in you'd just release it for 1.52 first and then make a patch for 1.8 or something like that.
That's good. Nope, I stayed up most of the night release day and ported everything over to STA3 including the DLC.
will the current factions get updated with new tech and ships after release, or is what we see, what we get, period?
