Oh, THERE'S the reason I had to turn off random event's again... been awhile since I've seen that destroy my homeworld 10 minutes in.

Completely unbalanced thing. With its ultra powerful EMP it should be fragile and slow. Not armored and fat as entire spacedock.

If there was a peaceful way to deal with it...

You just need to travel back in time and get some whales...

If you spot one nearby when scouting rush siege ships. Siege ships are super OP against heavy armored targets. I was playing as the Borg when I found one in the star system I started in and rushed to get wedges and sent 5 up against it unsupported as it attacked one of my planets. They killed it in 2 volleys. You would probably need a lot more ships for the other factions, but the siege ships should still be ridiculously effective.

Random events are easy to defeat. Just throw up a starbase or two and they are stopped. The only thing i dont like about them is they dont attack each other.

Description

In 2286 an enormous vessel of unknown origin entered Federation territory from unexplored space. The vessel emitted an immensely powerful signal that was interpreted as some indecipherable attempt at communication, leading to the theory that it was a probe of some kind. While it did not at first appear overtly hostile, so powerful was the probe's signal that it interfered with the systems of all Federation ships, space stations and colonies in its path, effectively stripping them of most forms of power. Eventually settling into orbit over the Federation's capital of Earth, it began focusing its powerful signal specifically at Earth's oceans, causing a natural disaster as the oceans began evaporating under the intensity. Concluding that they were under attack, a Federation-wide state of emergency was declared, with all Federation ships ordered to avoid Earth at all costs until a way could be found to communicate with or destroy the probe.

While it placed the people of Earth in great jeopardy, the probe's intention was, in fact, not hostile at all. The probe was indeed purely an instrument of communication, except much to everyone's surprise it had no interest in communicating with the Federation at all. Focusing its hailing signals at Earth's oceans, it was attempting to establish contact with the greatest mammals ever to have existed on Earth - whales. Specifically, Humpback whales. Far older than human civilisation, it was entirely plausible that unknown aliens far beyond the Federation's borders would be more interested in these ancient, majestic creatures than in the short-lived works of humanity.

Through means that are...complex, Starfleet managed to provide some Humpbacks to communicate with the probe. Contact established, the probe, now dubbed the Cetacean probe, or simply the Whale Probe, stopped transmitting and unceremoniously departed, heading silently back out into unknown space.

Future encounters with similar probes should be met with great caution.
