S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - PreSky is a Total Conversion mod for Clear Sky, set before the events in Clear Sky begin. Its goal is to provide a fresh new game experience from the point of a regular Stalker within the Zone. This basically means that the mod has complete and total freeplay from the start. PreSky combines some of the best elements and ideas from all 3 games in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series to produce a brand new gameplay experience within the Zone, with the sole intention of creating a more realistic Stalker experience that aims to make the player believe they are a Stalker. There is no main storyline progression to unlock new areas, or new items for the player. The Zone goes on living regardless of the actions of the player, with a virtually unrestricted alife that makes the Zone seem even more alive and real than it did before. The only storyline is the one you create for yourself.
Improving upon and finishing the Custom PDA of this mod. This screenshot is mainly showing off the kills table, an idea and excellent feature from SoC. This screenshot also shows that I've started work on stage 2 as well, if anyone can spot it.
I'm hoping that once I've got all 4 stages complete, the 'P' shortcut key to access the games hardcoded PDA will become near redundant.
Looks good Out of interest How did you decide on the protagonist's name?
Dunno. Picked a first name and a last name at random really.
Awesome. =)
Nice
Looks very good so far. So you'll have specifics for about every rank of STALKER/soldier/mutant/zombie? I'm guessing this is based off of their rank in the character_desc_general.xml file. Looking forward to racking up a lot of Soldier kills :).
I kinda think it should be "Kills" instead of "Killed" has a nice ring to it :D.
Well, the kill table is a feature that I wanted to introduce, since I liked the concept in SoC, but due to save problem issues, I haven't been able to do it. With these problems sorted out, I've been able to do this now.
The only problem was that the vanilla scripts don't count Renegade or Clear Sky kills, since these were introduced in SoC. That's been fixed.
Now on to redoing the Map section to use full sized vanilla map textures instead of the minature ones it currently uses, and designing the Tasks table, so you can use this to see what tasks you have.
@Xetrill - I'll rename the section.
Is this PDA going to at one point completly get rid of the other standard 'press P' PDA, or is it going to be an alternative like it has been so far?
I would like it to replace the default one, alas that is not possible without extensive engine hacking. So I'll have to settle for a much higher quality alternative (IMO).
Although I've recently been looking at the engine calls in CoP, and if some of them work as I think they work, if I port this over to CoP, then it would be the third best PDA the series has seen - behind SoC's default one and Lost Alpha's redesigned one. Plus with CoP's quick use keys, accessing it would be just as fast as hitting 'P'
Still a bit of work to go before I get there though.
I tell a lie in my other post - I can now call this PDA when the user presses 'P', the only problem is both the regular PDA and this one show up. I need to find a way to close the regular PDA via script, leaving only this one open.
And its done without engine hacking.
Yep, managed to call this PDA via pressing 'P' and get rid of the standard PDA.
The kill table is absolutely the coolest thing to hit this mod since your introduction of the benefit-over-time system. The kill counts are something I've always been curious to know, and I've missed them since SoC.
Well done!
Good news is that I've managed to fix scaling problems with the Diary and Encyclopedia texts - in resolutions higher than 800x600, the text doesn't stretch all the way across the screen. This has now been fixed.
I've also discovered the UI control that the game uses for the base PDA map, so I can now create the map page to be intractable and acts to a degree like the vanilla PDA map. I'm still trying to figure out how to add a horizontal scrollbar to it however. I can scroll up and down, but not left or right yet.
With this discovery, the map page will be more like the the standard one. I'm reasonably confident that I can emulate nearly every feature of the standard CS PDA perfectly now, with the exception of the message history.
I might even be able to create a contacts page similar to SoC's, if I can find an easy way to find every npc within a certain radius.
The Sky is the Limit!
