Greetings.

in my game, which I ported from 1.5.0 hotfix 8 I encountered a weird crash that always happens when I'm in "Army Warehouse".

It doesn't happen instantly when entering the area but after some time staying there. It feels like something some NPC or "something" is trying to do something which triggers the crash as I've tried looking down at the ground, trying not to render any object that might make the game crash. I've stayed still when loading into the area from different travel zones aswell. I've tried loading a different, younger, save file. I've tried to have nothing on me and I've tried lowering the graphics but no dice.

I hope someone can help, if not save my very long game but also tell me how to avoid it in the future. Thank you in advance!

Thanks for posting the log, there isn't anything that points to the cause and I don't see anything wrong before the crash. It appears that a monolith squad is being killed off, presumably by Gatekeeper and thats looks normal.

I don't know what table the game is looking for or what its related to. Was your save from a modded Anomaly 1.5.0?

And no, I haven't modded the game at all. I just transferred my old savefile from "1.5.0 hotfix 8" to the new one "1.5.1". And 1.5.1 is not modded either.

The game always crash at the same timestamp, if I load a game 1 minute from the crash then the game crashes in 1 minute, if I save 10 seconds before the crash then it crashes after 10 seconds. But I haven't used a stopwatch so it's probably not that exact. :P

I've had no problems at all before and I've spent many hours in "Army Warehouse" on that save before the crash. I haven't tried just waiting for a very long time in another area, but I don't know if NPCs are that active when I'm not in the area, or if it's because of a NPC at all. And, also, if it's because of Gatekeeper then it wouldn't be of use as he is both unmoving, as in he doesn't roam about, and immortal. :(

I believe the ingame day is around 30 and I don't know if that is a long time and/or that my saved items might be a problem somehow in my custom stash by the tank in the Freedom base, I use both the normal stash and a backpack stash there, but I do save a lot of junk, probably around 1000 in weight. Then again, I have almost all options at their lowest so I don't really have that much loot anyways tho.

I tried verifying the files, I haven't tried to zip up the original files again and see if that helps, but I don't believe that is the problem, but what do I know, heh.

So you've been in Army Warehouses before using the save from 1.5.0 and had no problems. There are debug options and other workarounds, but its a case of trial and error when you don't know what to look for.

A few tests that I would run without debug mode are: Turning on backpack travel and going to the stash, use fast travel and go to different locations on the map, sleeping somewhere like Rostok to let the game update and return to AW.

Debug mode has an option to delete common squads, but really its a last resort and don't use all squads or it will be a very empty zone :D

I have a 67 day game, so its not related to that.

I hoped for a quick fix or atleast some divine help. I got the later. ;)

Anyways, I'll try those things and some of my own ideas, I hope the problem will go away because I kinda like the "Army Warehouse" location. Much because of the monolith/zombified event that keeps my ammo stocked! I have no knowledge of the debug meny so I will have to read up on it when I have the time and I hope it's not something which you have to enable before you start a new game.

My own thoughts about the problem is that it's probably because of the update on the game, I can't explain why, it just feels like it. :P

Anyways, I will not use more of your time and if anyone has an answer to my problem I would be grateful, also I will update this thread if I find a work around or fix.

EDIT: I let my brother try my save file on his computer and game and it crashed just like on mine. It's a sureway of finding out the bug atleast as you can all experience it on my savefile. :P

Thanks for the files, I gave it a test and it appears to be an NPC causing the crash, it could be the Freedom squad at the camp before the freedom base.

Using debug mode I loaded your save and as you said within 1 minute it crashed. Reloaded and used debug menu to Delete Common Squads, no crash anywhere in Army warehouses and I was there a good 15 minutes. Down side of using this is a few tasks from Common stalkers will fail, 3 in total. I'm going to see if I can pin point the squad thats causing the crash and delete them using a command, I'll post the command for you if I find out who is responsible.

Failing quests isn't the end of the world, well I get like 25 rep per quest on the hardest setting, but when you remove squads as you say, will a new one spawn at some point or will the game have one less squad in it forever?

But, man, that's some grade A help I just got from you, I'd offer you some beer... I mean vodka but I don't think you're anywhere near me so I'll drink one for you on Friday!

If I could be so bold, could you send me the debugged(?) savefiles so I don't have to learn how the debug thingie works, but it might not be that hard to do it if you tell me how if you don't want to. And if you were able to just remove those crashing basta... people instead of them all I would be even more happy!

Anyways, whatever you do you've just done me a real solid as I really didn't want to have to start over, but I was curious to start a new game as a bandit, every option on hardest, lowest rewards and loot and never buy anything from any NPC in the game, see how long I survive but I guess that can wait!

So I found the Freedom guy who was responsible and removing him stopped the crash, here are the save files. You are in the bus shelter close to the original spot, monolith are attacking Freedom and a Military squad has just entered from Rostok so watch your back :D

Thank you! Got the files now. And don't worry, I'm always in danger in "Army Warehouse" so I always watch my back, the NPCs has to use hacks to get me there now! HAH.

And for the hoarding, yes, yes very much. It started small but when you need to have 2 stashes for your stuff then you might have problems. :P Beside, everyone knows that when finishing the monolith/zombiefied event I just happened to have a gauss rifle and VSSK on me at the time, yes freedom leader I REALLY used those weapons in the fight, promise.

The new update really removed the lag in the stashes for me, but what IF I need that 5'th 13% Ak-74?!?! No but seriously, I'm to lazy to just pick one item from a body, I take every thing then just place it all in a stash. Taking time to loot often ends up with me getting shot in the back. :P

Ohh and before I forget, can you post how you removed a NPC so I can do it aswell if it happens again? This way I don't need to ask you for help again, if you don't want me to do that, that is. ;)

No problem, if its something I can fix then I'll help, I know when you put a lot of time into a game and a crash happens, you just want to fix it, not start over.

So how to get rid of a NPC who's causing a crash using debug mode. Assuming we know its an NPC, as I mentioned before I used Remove Common Squads in the debug menu to narrow it down to that. Now we have to find the NPC, but levels like Army Warehouse can have a lot of squads so you need a list. I use the debug log, its the same log you get in appdata, but has more information. Here is an example:

As you can see every object has an ID at the end. In this case we know its an NPC and they are sim_default (common Squads). Now the boring part, in the log there are 39 NPCs with sim_default, make a list of their IDs. I just cut and paste them into a new text file.

Launch the game in debug mode and load the save, then escape to main menu. F7 to open the debug menu and on the left is the console window with an input field at the bottom. Click the input field and type: release_id number and press enter. Here is an example:

I did this in batches of 10 from the list of 39 IDs, then pressed escape to return to the game and see if it crashes. I was lucky the NPC was in the first 10, if it wasn't then the game would crash and you would have to load the game again, enter another 10 IDs and so on until it doesn't crash. :/ Then its either entering the IDs one at a time or use smaller batches until it doesn't crash and you have your NPC. You can also just leave it there with the 10, as they are sim_default more will be generated at the next respawn.

I know it sounds a lot but once you've done this a few times its not that bad. You can always post your log and save and I'll take a look instead :D

Thank you for that in depth explantation. Yes, it was a lot, so much so that I hope I'll never have to use it but atleast now I have something to go from if it does happen again.

But this help was a really good experience for me and I hope you the best!

Getting this same crash myself.. Got myself a well equipped character and I don't want to lose him. I'll try this myself.
