Imagine having every Source Engine game combined into one giant box, with tons of buttons and switches to toggle various behaviors. Now combine that with a social hub where players can meet and interact together in various environments. That's SourceBox.

Planned features

  • A hub world like PSHome or GMTower. You can get absolutely wild with this concept
  • Built-in keyframing tool. Animate ragdolls, props, npcs, whatever.
  • Built-in sentence mixer. Search through a tagged (maybe even transcribed) list of game sounds, put them on a timeline and trim, split, pitch to your hearts desire.
  • Sentence-mixed voice commands. After you are done sentence mixing (assuming the server doesnt restrict your project by parameters like volume, sampled sounds, etc.), you can bind your project to a key or a menu and spam GET BEHIND ME DOCTOR! JAWOHL! CHARGE ME! YA! OUGH! UMPF! A

Sentence mixing also allows you to make YTPMV's with the use of pitching. You could very well replicate the famous Surprise Buttsecks song within the Source Engine!
  • .WAD import. Why not? This is supposed to be a sandbox game!
  • Custom shader support. Imagine having OF/Iris shaders but in SourceBox. Maybe even ray tracing will be supported!
  • Mesh generation with model importers like .fbx or .obj.
  • Bigger map size and entity limit. We REALLY want a bigger map size. Just imagine what you could do with something that is 16 times larger than the current limit.
  • Virtual concerts. You could even make a virtual concert using only HL2DM and SourceMod. Temp entities are great! But where SourceBox will shine is in it's
  • Lack of a player limit. With a hub world, there will be a lot of players in one server. You cant just cap the number of players at a time. The game needs to support as many players as possible.
  • Windows, Linux, FreeBsd, and Android releases. Yep, you read it right. ANDROID! Thanks to nillerusr's efforts you can play Source Engine games on your phone!

This seems like scope creep, right? Well, we don't plan on a "final release". We have all the time we want! Imagine it being like a regular FOSS program(like Blender). Anybody can contribute while the main dev team steadily ticks off things to do and adds new. We don't want an update drought either. That is the worst thing that can happen to a game.
