Smod Arcade is a remake of The_Commander's long-dead SMOD: Deathmatch, it is a Singleplayer mod that aims to emulate a Multiplayer experience. Arcade is heavily randomized, every match starts you off with random weapons in a random map with 1 of 4 random gamemodes to play, with combatants, teams, and "player" counts being randomized for each gamemode. What'll your next match be, a Free-For-All on de_dust? A Zombie Survival match in dod_flash? TDM in dm_resistance? Team Deathmatch with over 32 NPCs fighting in a horribly cramped CQC environment? Probably. Still, fans of old FPS games with bot match capabilities are likely going to love this.

Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch are self-explanatory, and the characters you fight against and alongside are randomized each match along with the number of DM combatants, their health, and the weapons they carry. There are over 100 possible characters the player can face off against, many of which have their own death sounds.

The teams in Team Deathmatch are all factions of similarly-themed characters, the size of both teams is randomized between 6 to 16 with a kill limit that will scale itself accordingly. Currently, there are 32 possible teams for the RNG to select for TDM matches all with their own names and character rosters.

Zombie Survival

A gamemode where the player's objective is to help the other survivors score more kills than the zombies do before the random round timer reaches zero. All of the Survivors will do the best they can to link up with the player and follow them around the map during the match, and the zombies and survivors spawn with random health values. The Zombie limit in ZS is 3x the random survivor count, and they receive a health bonus that is approximately half the survivors' kill count to keep things balanced. ZS includes all of the zombie classes available in SMOD, and npc_zombie2 has several classes that are all hard-hitting:

The Slayer - A withered charple with a blade and hook for arms and harpoons for legs, they are the fastest zombie subclass that the Survivors will encounter and are capable of cutting down groups of them at an alarming rate.

The Hulk - The Hulk from Zombie Master has been implemented they are a bit faster than the standard zombies are and have all the enhanced movement capabilities built into the zombie2 NPC. They are known to gloat to the other zombies about their glory days of being Hulk Spammed

The Not-So-Poisonous Zombie - A poison zombie that stands upright and attacks by charging straight into the survivors

The Gonome/Zombie Assassin - The biggest and baddest of the zombie2 subclasses, the Zombie Assassin towers over everyone else on the map and is the hardest-hitting of all of the zombie2s.


All NPCs in the modes above have a chance of spawning with random powerups, which are super speed, spawning with an invisibility cloak, and spawning with VERY high HP, which turns them red to convey that they are priority targets.


INVASION

A class-based gamemode that pits an allegiance of several alien species against an allegiance of 4 human armies, with each unit class behaving differently in combat and spawning with class-specific health and equipment. The goal is to help the human military eliminate the aliens by reducing their reinforcement counter to zero, or to have a higher reinforcement counter when the match ends. Whoever has more reinforcements when the random timer runs out is declared the winner!

Commando - the Alien equivalent to the Human Team's SMG Grunt class, which uses the the Alien Commando model from TF2 Invasion. They spawn with 125 HP and are equipped with laser rifles and plasma shotguns.

Shocktrooper - Returning from Opposing Force with 200 HP, their Shock Rifles are very powerful and they are capable of using squad tactics in groups. Shocktroopers normally prefer to hang back from vantage points and lay down suppressing fire for the other aliens. They also have a chance to spawn with plasma shotguns and the Laser Minigun from CSO.

Panthereye - An Alien Class that specializes in Close Quarters Combat/Melee. They have a very high move speed and are capable of pouncing at humans from long distances. Panthereyes pose a significant threat to your allies and can reduce entire platoons of soldiers to just a few stragglers in less than a minute if the space is tight enough. They spawn with 150 HP and come in several different colors that denote their move speed, from Blue, to Orange, Red, and Green.

Houndeyes - the closest the aliens have to the Human Specialist, they behave exactly how you'd expect them to with their sonic wave attack and pose a serious threat to your soldiers. If you hear one attacking, prioritize it!

Alien Grunt - Aliens' Heavy Class, they normally spawn with pulse rifles and an alien grenade launcher known as the devastator. Some Alien Grunts are also capable of deploying exploding headcrabs, but the exploding headcrabs they spawn are just as likely to go after the aliens as they are to attack the humans. The Alien Grunt is based on npc_combine_ace and spawns with high HP, with 3 extra variants that indicate how high their health is, from Standard, to the Blue sergeants, Green cloakers, and Red captains.

Alien Assassin - Alien Sniper Class, they are the weakest units on the field and carry laser rifles that are capable of doing a lot of chip damage. They can be very troublesome if the RNG deploys them in groups, combined laser fire will make very short work of not only your teammates, but you as well. Watch out!

Yeah, if you have Notepad++ you can set the gamemode override to whichever one you wanna play. The code that holds this whole mod together is located in scripts/common.lua
