Rock 24 takes place on an abandoned Cliffside prison. The prison is situated on the side of a sheer cliff face meaning the only real way in and out is by air. The combine have moved in to the facility and are re-using it as a place to hold rebel leaders and other important Rebels. Gordon is required to infiltrate, free the Rebel leader and hopefully escape from the facility alive. Unfortunately the prison is rapidly deteriorating around him and there isn't much time. Rock24 was in production for 9 months as a spare time personal project by two guys who work in the games industry. This is their first mod and attempt at level design.

So far, this is the best overall mod I have played. Whereas other mods have just one or two strong suits, such as Awakening's music or City 7's voice acting(to an extent), this one combines them all in a well designed, hour and a half game. The puzzles are challenging to a degree where they are still hard, but not so much as to make me pull out my hair. Voice acting is one of the best I've heard, apart from a few pronuciation errors(It's pronounced MAY-sah, not MEH-sah. Got it, Dr. Newell?). The storyline pushes you to see the game through to the end, and the gameplay keeps you entertained throughout its length. No Half-Life 2 fan in his or her right mind should pass up this mod.

Rock 24 is one of those mods that got absolutely demolished by the 2013 SteamPipe update.

However fans have since created patches for it that put it in a fully playable state, it offers an hour or so of playtime with a decently written story for the time.

It's only shortcomings are the fights against the Combine, they are not that well designed and most times they will just rush you instead of doing something a bit more smarter, also the lack of player cover was a bit annoying but otherwise fine.

Well worth a playthrough if you want something tightly packed that doesn't overstay it's welcome!

Decently fun mod with good variety of different gameplay elements, ranging from stealth to base defense.

Puzzles weren't really there, although it felt like they should've been, what with the prison setting and all. The only time I felt like I was breaking out of prison was when I smashed a hole in the wall behind a toilet, which would surely lead to some hidden easter egg... but it was an empty room. Nothing to do. What.

Kinda buggy, but that might not be the modder's fault since the 2013 update killed a lot of things and we're working off an unofficial patch thanks to the kind @malortie. Just ignore all the blinking crap when you wake up in the prison. Get outta that room and the blinking stops, so try to muscle through.

One time the stairs broke and Gabe said "you'll have to find another way around or else I'm leaving you here" while he's standing in front of the rubble. On my side of the rubble. Right next to me. Oh, so I have to wade through waist-deep spicy water but you can just teleport?

One of the last fights as you enter outdoors is broken and doesn't happen, but at least you can skip on to the next part without issue. If you get to the sniper after some anti-climactic CP Violation, you're doing the right thing. Keep going.

Pacing was nice, but combat often felt cheap or unfair until you realize there's a gameplay element that allows you to skip or kill everything, but it's not obvious and usually only noticed after the fact, requiring a restart for the full effect. The game waits too long to "save" you.

Too many combat encounters that involve shooting down a long hallway. Fun to stack 'em like cornwood, but hardly any challenging encounters that felt natural. Valve is a master at making you feel overwhelmed and like a badass at the same time, whereas Rock 24 felt clunky and unpolished, but still well above average for the most part.

I did love the dynamic environments as you progressed. Collapses, explosions, a sense of panic at times which perfectly fit the mood of the mod. Great atmosphere.

A marvelous mod from the early days of Half-life 2 modding.

It really felt like the whole place was coming down on my head as I progressed further and further through Rock 24, with impressive mapping and plenty of nifty details and voice-acting.

Apply a fix, and give this a go as soon as possible! :D

A short, but fun classic. There are a few bugs, such as props during Wake Up Call flickering and the APC during The Escape not moving due to it having no wheels. Besides that, it's a very enjoyable mod.

Update: A recent fan patch fixed pretty much all of the issues I experienced while playing this. It can be found here: Moddb.com

A bit buggy

I found a couple of bugs at the start but I was able to fix them by exploiting HL2 physics lol (there was a guard that was supposed to come out of a room but he didn't, and I had to kill all of them to progress. So I stacked 2 barrels to get there and enter the room and kill him). Other than that, this mod is pretty cool! I love mods with well done NPCs

Обычный мод про побег из тюрьмы, иногда красивый маппинг.

A regular jailbreak mod, sometimes beautiful mapping.

"Rock 24" started out as mod that showed some promise and potential.....however, the gameplay ended very abruptly for me not long into this mod.

You start out on a ship at sea that eventually is fired on by a 'gunship' (helicopter) -which I and other crewmates managed to destroy with rpgs. However, immediately afterwards another 'gunship' appears....and it manages to destroy the ship that you are on....and you are stranded in the ocean, and as a result begin to sink.

After this 'cut-scene,' you awaken in some kind of a high-tech combine prison facility -replete with lasers and com-controls, etc. 'Off the bat' from this point onwards....I encountered a handful or more of 'script-errors': These consisted primarily of doors that wouldn't open and there was no solution to open them; hence, I was forced to use 'no-clip' cheats at least a handful of times. Sometime not too much later in the mod (about 20+ minutes of gameplay or so) -- I end up freeing a fellow prisoner who was clad in orange felon jumpsuit. Very soon afterwards, he directed me to man a 'turret-gun' and he himself also manned another 'turret-gun' right next to me...and then in-game music began to play indicating that we were in for a battle. At this point combine guards began very, very slowly entering the room that our turret guns are pointing at and we begin eliminating them. However, it seemed very, very odd and unnatural at 'HOW SLOW' the combine guards began entering the room and HOW FEW at a time.....my hunches were that this was 'fishy' and likely wasn't SUPPOSED to happen this way. My hunches proved right:

Even after the last combine bulls stopped entering the room.....my friend (the self-same who was donning an orange felony prison jumpsuit) still manned his 'turret-gun' and he refused to leave it -- as though all the combine guards that were SUPPOSED to enter the room FAILED to....and some REMAINED stuck off-screen somewhere.

At this point, I was compelled traverse every part of the map that I had already explored over and over again (which I did at least 4 times) looking for any hidden switches or levers that I may have missed the first time around -- and hitting the 'use' button on every com-control and everything else. Nothing happened; my friend still refused to move from his turret-gun, even though the action had LONG since ceased.

Finally, I resorted to using a 'no-clip' cheat to go to every part of the map that existed -- looking for any portion of the map that I hadn't yet explored - all of this was to no avail.

As a result, my progress in this mod came to an abrupt end -- due to this last and by far the most egregious 'script error' of all.

If other players of this mod haven't come across this same script error at the junction where I did, I would like to know how and why this is. Yes, I did have the latest patch installed.

I rate "Rock 24" a 4/10.
