not right now, since CtA doesn't have much features at the moment. The decision will be made later depending on the features they implented into the game.
AS1 still feels a lot smoother, to me.
AS1 was laggy in SP lol
the performance is def. better and less crashes. not to mention the visual improvements in the engine. plus, way better internet support (+steam). I miss the good old holster key tho... :P
Are you talking about AS1 or 2?
AS1 doesn't have steam support so AS2 he was talking about mate.

Is it possible to port existing missions to the newer games?
I tried, and any map where I changed the saturation of an object would not load, and I don't remember any of the missions working, as well...
All my maps/missions work fine, but I never manually changed the saturation of any objects in the mission itself, I only do that in the general enviroment settings.
