Rise of the Reds – or ROTR for short – improves upon the C&C Generals formula while also adding its own distinct elements to it. Most notably, the mod adds two completely new factions, the tank-heavy Russian Federation and the defence-oriented European Continental Alliance. In addition, the three original factions China, USA and GLA have been greatly expanded and redesigned in a variety of ways, with several new units, buildings, powers and abilities to explore and combine in your in-game tactics.
Since the inception of ESA's famous Solaris energy project, high-ranking Russian officials have heavily criticised it for its possible use as a highly devastating orbital weapon and missile defence. While much of the criticism at the time was in no small part motivated by the fact that a self-sufficient Europe put an end to the long-standing fossil fuel deals that kept the Russian economy going, the alleged military potential of Solaris turned out to be more than just a slanderous conspiracy theory as early as 2046, when the Russian aircraft carrier 'Peter the Great' got melted to slag by a pillar of sunlight striking down from the sky without warning in the Baltic Sea. In addition to these short, concentrated bursts, European commanders can also experiment with a longer, broader solar saturation to turn entire areas into cooking wastelands for extended periods.
Wait. Isn't 'Peter the Great' or Pyotr Veliky is the name of the real-life Kirov-class battlecruiser serving as the flagship of the Russian Northern Fleet? What happened to it in the ROTOR universe?
Well, a lot of things could have happened to that particular ship in the many decades prior to the Russia/ECA conflict. Not really an important detail, but I liked the name and since the ROTR Russians seem to have aircraft carriers acting as flagships for each of their various fleet, it seemed fair to have that name for one of them.
Awwww but I like the Kirov-class, the only active ship that carries looots of dakka!
Well, the game is set about a third of a century into the future. Plenty of time to design and build a new batch of battlecruisers, if they were so inclined.
Some big ships to go with all those big tanks of theirs.
''Pyotr Veliky'' Is also the name of the Russian tsar back in the 18 century =)
It got decommissioned, it got blown up by GLA terrorists, it got sold off to some other country. Or something.
You guys should really feel bad for the enemy, like come on they are literally getting raped by the sun...
... and now we know the origin of helios
SO let me get this straight can you choose from high concentration beams or wide area attacks?
High Concentration burst or a slower effect wide spread effect. Yes. Do note the demonstration video we put up only shows the high concentration burst.
What demonstration video?
Well modDB takes some time to put up our updates:

So go check it out. It's also on our facebook:

The power of the sun, in the palm of my hand!
Lol ppl in real life should use the solar energy(not for weapons) but like the ECA Solar Reactor.
If someone would invest in something like that :]
Still under research. You can't just plot a satellite with a mirror into orbit and aim it at the closest solar panel. Well, you can but it's about as useful as nipples on armour.
Anyway, Wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space-based_solar_power
Need some sunblocks for my troops...
sunblock wont help them they going get fried anyway
Yay the Eca's superweapon this is ******* awesome
AWESOME!
Seen the video...this weapon is shockingly cool! Wonder what wide spread effect would look like...
I saw the video and it's amazing!! Kinda reminds me of ARCHIMEDES II in New Vegas :)
oh my god, you are so right.
Oh my god, your right, both are a satalite based power plant turned into a weapon.
Somethin's cookin!
Soon your base will glow like the sun.
There, I'm going to start misappropriating quotes from General Tao.
Better yet: RA2 desolator.
HERE COMES THE SUN!
Love the irony seeing as the desolator was a soviet unit RA2
the power of a god in an etti, bitty little space.
Awesome! Looks like our speculation was right! :D
Did you get the idea from the 'Sun Gun', proposed during WWII?
En.wikipedia.org
Looks nice from the video. :)
it would be cool to add kirov class battle cruisers for the russian navy latter
Epic popcorn machine :D
Will you guys post a video of the slow wide spread effect firing mode of this weapon?
Looks like the Guard command center from Dawn of war.
So it's like the Archimedes II from Fallout New Vegas, right?
AIRCRAFT CARRIERS: 0
