Um. I think its better than the vanilla Luke, but the face looks a little weird. That just my opinion. Great job anyways.

How so? I'm open to critique but if it's to be helpful, I would need specifics as to what looks weird to you.

For what it's worth, I used actual images of Hamill to create the texture. That doesn't mean it must therefore be perfect, so please elaborate.

Also, I wanted him to look older. The mod is about 20 years after RotJ.

Its his eyes. Too much shadow to me and the eyes are a bit to small. But other then that, great job.

Thanks for being respectful in replying. When I critique someone's work, I try to be as respectful as possible because I know how much work goes into this stuff. Some people will just straight up say stuff like, looks bad, do better. But usually even when I'm respectful, it starts arguments because people get triggered I even said something. So thanks for not being an A-hole :).

At first glance, he looks like he has his eyes closed, but upon closer inspection, he seems to be perpetually looking up at something. He also has these dark bags under his eyes. It looks like he hasn't slept in a long time. Other than that, the face is as good as it gets with the EaW engine.

Or the third is that we actually found his story fulfilling simply because it made him a more nuanced character. Hate to start a flame war but that fanboy argument provides a false binary choice. Luke was a kid when he was forced to fight the empire and a middle aged man by the time he trained Ben, a lot changes in that time: particularly in mindset. Luke had the grand total of 2 weeks of training from the old jedi and had the pressure of restarting the jedi from scratch with what he knew, I think it makes perfect sense that he made a mistake and took it too hard, simply because he was an idealist.

I'm fine if you didn't like it, but don't paint it as if in your view *nobody* liked in when a vast majority of fans enjoyed the film. It's not only condescending but extremely hypocritical

Hmm... I don't agree on several points here. It's simply untrue that the vast majority liked the film. It's the most controversial Star Wars film by a long shot, even more so than the prequels.

Further, I did actually enjoy the direction they were taking with Luke. What I did not like is how it was written for the screen. The entire movie was a screenwriting disaster...or rather, a screenwriter's nightmare as his/her screenplay is edited (and mishandled by execs) into oblivion. The movie was a failure overall. That doesn't mean I hated it and loath everything new canon...but as a movie, artistically and technically it failed.

Please don't call me a fanboy. Seriously.

Lastly, the nuance in the film was something already explored in the novels. 99% of the ideas in the new movies are borrowed and adapted from the novels...except done worse. No, not because I have a raging hardon for old lore and think Kathleen Kennedy is Hitler reborn...but because Disney doesn't know how to write a story, not really. They know how to calculate a movie and play it safe. They know how to make money...not how to produce art.

There's a quote that always makes me think of TLJ: "If you're only trying to be the opposite of a thing, you're still letting that thing define you."

It's from the Leia, Princess of Alderaan and ironically is said by Leia and directed towards Amilyn Holdo, no less. I like to think it's the author throwing shade at the movie but I know that's not true.

Anyway to the model itself. The face does look swollen but that's just you working with your self-imposed limits. Maybe lower the pupils as he seems to be perpetually looking up. He looks super-****** at the last shot (right). I'm guessing those two are connected (UV or the way the face is shaped). Also baw gawd those shoulders, one of the infantry riggers worst nightmare. Overall it's really good and your choice of giving him the yellow jacket outfit is an interesting one. I especially like that cleft chin.

I am thinking the generic Jedi would look weird since they wear traditional robes while heroes like Luke would wear something "casual".

It was an interesting decision to have to make regarding the generic Jedi attire vs heroes. On one hand, Luke's padawans probably didn't wear robes like the old Jedi. However, the unit itself can have only so much variation before it starts to look like a hero of its own. The robe, to me, separates them instantly from the heroes so you know at a glance that it's the generic unit.

Also, it was motivated by a desire to save time. Robed Jedi could share their mesh with their dark counterparts. All I had to do was edit the texture.

I dunno what kind of bubble you live in buddy but you're basing your opinion and making it sound like a fact when it's not. Did you interview every single moviegoer at TLJ? The only ones upset about this film are hardcore EU fans and people who wear Luke Skywalker PJs. You haven't elaborate at all on how it is bad except for saying "oh its bad because I say so"

Yes it was polarizing but the people hating it are massively vocal minority compared to the casual fans and moviegoers who enjoyed it for a solid movie, literally SW fans are hilarious in how they **** on TFA for being too much like the originals and this for being too different.

Now I get why you hated it, you can like the old lore but that doesn't bring it back and I'm sure you're gonna hate anything new simply because it isn't old lore. Fact of the matter is about 75% of old EU was ****, there was good stuff sure but the bad stuff outweighed it by a f*ckton

Dude, this is a mod based in the "Legends" continuity (I use the term "Legends" loosely because, c'mon we all know its the actual, more valid Star Wars canon anyway, I mean Lucas approved of it) so obviously the maker of the mod and a majority of the mod watchers are going to have a slight "Legends" biased regardless of their thoughts on the sequel trilogy.

"75% of the EU was ****" is your own, highly objective opinion, in which many both agree and disagree with, and to say that "legends" fans are a "minority" is simply a falsehood unless you have numbers to back it up. The fact that the Jaina Solo Black Series figure is selling better than the new TLJ black series figures that were also released this season, is proof enough that "legends" fans aren't simpley a "minority".

There are plenty of Mouse-Canon mods springing up for EAW if your more interested in having a Rian Johnson Jake Skywalker esc hero take the lead. Now, why you'd be interested in a game hero who's hero abilities would most likely be "run and hide" and "give up" is beyond me, but, you do you.

Rage, you're done alright? You can't come into my mod and start hurling insults at my fans. Nobody owes you an explanation of their tastes or needs to justify their opinion to you. You've come into an EU-centric forum and started yelling that EU fans are stupid. I honestly don't know what you expected.

Actually your point about TFA is false because I saw it in the theatres and at the end of the movie everyone in the room loved it and I a Star Wars MEGA fan loved it as well. On the other hand I hated TLJ not only because of what they did with luke's and how they killed Akbar but also because Rian Johnson completely ignored everything TFA set the sequel up with as far as plot goes EX:Snoke being set up as the main villain only to be unceremoniously killed off by kylo ren.

Wonderful fresh take on Luke, the all-black kit was overplayed, and frankly a bit dull. I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments regarding The Mouse's version of Luke's story, that is one of my least favorite aspects of the new saga.

Yep, Han has two types of pants...these and also black with red stripes. If you look at Luke's costume in the award ceremony on Yavin, you'll see he's actually wearing those same pants:

You would think finally being a Jedi Master he can afford more than one pair of trousers. XD

Also I got to say, I like your version as it is.

The black glove mentioned above could be added, then again that was only to hide the damaged synthflesh where he got hit by a blaster in ROTJ. I would assume that in 20 years he finally got that patched up, so I guess even that is not totally necessary.

Who said being a master Jedi was lucrative? Maybe most sources depict him in his black outfit because that's all he can afford. Lol. The yellow jacket, that's just his "going out" jacket that he wears only for special occasions.

That explains why people say he looks ****** in my screenshots. Someone ruined date night with Mara... And nobody ruins date night with Mara.

I have to say I was always a fan of his ROTJ garb, personally, but regardless this looks like a really good model, and it was about time he got one.

Actually, I think I'd even be willing to throw some money your way to see your take on possibly making another model of luke in his ROTJ outfit as some sort of alternate biome model/outfit for ingame, if you would be interested in such a task or compensation.

I really like your style of making these models for EAW, be they ships or ground units. You really have a way of making every little detail count and stand out, and keep a consistent art direction that makes everything look very professional.

Thanks man! I'd actually considered starting a Patreon but the simple fact is that accepting money for mods strays into some legally dubious territory.

Something I've actually considered with all hero units is making alternate appearances for each. The game already has a mechanic to alter appearance for different climates/weather but I can take it a step further with the randomize appearance script that Kad from the Vong mod made for me.

With that, I could have heroes cycle through random outfits, as well as have preset ones for snowy worlds, etc. Then I could include this version, as well as the classic RotJ look and even others from comics or other games.

However, if I do this, it will really be one of the last things and perhaps something I do as a patch later on. I don't want to necessarily delay the full release for something like that.

Description

All of us know the story of Skywalker during the fight against the Empire. Some of us wish we could forget his "official" story after those events. Others found his story intriguing but found Disney's handling of it a botched and utter mess.

Whatever your feelings, I think we can all agree that our farmboy-turned-Jedi Hero remains an epic figure in the Legends universe. It's here that no meddling mouse or Kennedy can touch him and his many accomplishments. It's here that the legacy of Skywalker, the devoted teacher, father, and friend can remain the icon that he was. Sure, "Legends" Luke might have seen his public persona as something to be cautious of, lest his fame lead him to arrogance. However, I think the Luke of Legends would have understood the words of a different kind of hero in a galaxy much closer to us...

"Folks need heroes Chief. To give 'em hope."

And so, reluctant or not, our beloved master of the Force would have allowed the galaxy to look towards him with aspiration and yes, the hope they so desperately needed after the Galacic Civil War left the galaxy in ruin. In this role, Luke would go on to train new Jedi in the temples of Yavin IV, redeem or save many and in the end, guide the galaxy into a new era.

With all this in mind, I chose Luke's "medal ceremony" attire for his appearance in RotM as it is the pinnacle of Luke's heroism in the Civil War and the image that many would remember. Additionally, almost all media (fan made or otherwise) depict luke in his RotJ garb. I wanted to do something less common but equally iconic. Besides, I'm sure he had more than one outfit, after all.
