The Empire has fallen and a New Republic is born out of the conflict. But in the ashes of civil war, yet another life stirs...
Designed sometime during the Galactic Civil War, the Aegis-class isn't much to look at, but it is a highly dependable and durable vehicle transport. It was briefly used by the Empire before the Sentinel-class Shuttle was developed and further modified to carry vehicles. Additionally, it comes heavily armed for a transport ship and in general, is granted the respect that a rugged ship like itself would deserve. New Republic soldiers affectionately refer to it as the "Ass-End-Ground-Insertion-System" because of its less than appealing visual aesthetics but the number of soldiers it has safely brought home, and its ability to operate with less than the normal escort has allowed the Aegis to earn its keep. There have even been times were its frame has lent itself to the role of mobile forward command center on outer rim worlds or frontline territories as well. It's only real drawbacks are it's slow hyperdrive/sublight engines and expensive maintenance due to a lesser availability of parts.
Very nice. I’d never heard of this before.
Yeah, it's not a well known ship...even the wiki has few details on it. That's why I wanted to include it. It's something unique that I don't think any other mod has.
lmao, that rebel play on the acronym tho
Thought that up all by myself lol. Felt inspired by the real world military...nicknames for everything. OS2U Float Plane is "Old, slow and ugly"...the B-52 is the "B.U.F.F." or "Big Ugly Fat F***er" lol
stunning
So, will this be the New Republic infantry shuttle?
Vehicle transport. The GR75 is for troops.
That feels backwards imo
Well according to canon, that's really what their roles are. The GR75 is just a giant container ship basically, it's not equipped to transport vehicles.
I like it. Though it feels like the cockpit windows are unnecessarily big, which in turn also makes the whole ship look smaller than it might be.
Also according to Wookie the GR-75 is 90m long and this only 29m, wouldn't it be weird that the infantry dropship is three times as large as the vehicle one?
Might be a bit late for that, but have you though about having this as NR infantry dropship? Starwars.wikia.com
Tbh I always felt that the GR-75 makes no sense as combat dropship and with the possible plans for it as suicide/electronic warfare ship there would also be another use for the model.
To me they always were more of a supply ship ideally being not anywhere near the frontline.
I always think of the GR75 like a big container ship. So yes its huge but a true military transport? No. The cockpit is huge on the Aegis though, if you look at the wiki... I dont really understand the artist's decision there but I was just trying to mimick the design for the most part. Idk.
It was a toss up between this and the Bantha actually. I decided on this one because it was way easier to make and since its only a transport, I didn't want it to be too time consuming.
Also wanted to mention that the GR75 cockpit is designed for a pilot only...no crew. Whereas the Aegis seats at least four, if not more.
Reminds me of the shuttles in Mass Effect
You're right! Didn't even consider that.
Reminds me very much of the shuttle you ride in at the beginning of Star Wars: Jedi Academy.
