The Empire has fallen and a New Republic is born out of the conflict. But in the ashes of civil war, yet another life stirs...
Produced by Atgar Space Defense Corp the 1.4 FD P Tower, often more simply referred to as the Atgar Tower, was a medium anti-vehicle defensive weapon employed by many organizations in the galaxy. Cheap and easy to produce, transport, and store, the Atgar was an accessible solution for those needing heavier protection than small arms can offer.
However, the Atgar, while excelling at cracking through the shields and armor of repulsor tanks and small walkers, struggled with heavy armor and fast moving targets. Additionally, the turret was not designed to target areal vehicles and the vertical pitch of the turret was limited. Trained crews, with a bit of luck, could hit air targets from time to time, however.
Muzzle flash and laser were just sloppily Photoshopped in...the yellow glow, however, will appear during attack animation.
It's... beautiful, Farseer! I LOVE the art style so much!
Glad to know the monarch of the reptile kingdom approves!
New repblic tech?
Apparently the NR eventually strapped this to tanks for bit more mobile firepower
Fun fact: The DF9's weaponry was also what the Empire attached to the XR-85 tank droid. So both of the "Hoth" turrets lived on in tank form at some point. Lol
Fun Fact no 2: The thing that NR attached it to was an imperial craft Starwars.fandom.com
funny considering how the turret was actually introduced by the time of the clone wars
Lol star wars lore is such a deep and expansive rabbit hole...
just you wait till the disney side gets as deep as the EU lol
amazing
Just wondering, but will they be rigged with a soldier manning it? That little detail always bugged me on Petroglyth's model - especially since the AI liked to spam them.
And how will this compare with its vanilla turret? It was rubbish at its intended role and anything heavier than a light vehicle were rather safe from destruction - a lot of vehicles could outrange it too, now that I think about it. At that point, I found anti-aircraft turrets were better at holding off vehicles than the actual specialist.
It will be effective up to a point, but as the caption says, it was not particularly effective against heavily armored targets. Think of Empire Strikes Back where the ATAT basically just laughs off a direct hit from one of these things.
As for an infantry manually using the gun... The problem here is that I can't animate that guy, especially taking steps as the turret rotates. This limitation with game engine makes adding this little detail almost impossible.
He could be standing on a small platform at the back that rotates with the turret, so you wouldn't need to animate him. I don't think it would be too noticeable if he doesn't move at all in the grand scheme of things. But then again it also works at it is.
That was precisely the idea I was mulling over. However, then it occurred to me that remote controlled turrets have been a thing in our world since the 1940's. Stands to reason that they would exist in Star Wars.
Entirely plausible that New Republic technicians converted the turrets to a remote or even droid-controlled system that could operate without concern for sentient life being lost.
