Also applied the fixes for weapon probability by Tom, updated multifixer for Uplay to [Version 1.8. (Build 48)], and finally added in rare Vanilla "diving" animations (rarely used to avoid the player's vehicle) to switch out AI's nonexistent idle animations for more alive AI. Also re-enabled the full taxi intro sequence. This will be the final update as the mod is now complete and stable. Check

Edit (for visibility to everyone that is downloading this mod):

Well I have just finished my first ever Far Cry 2 playthrough with this mod from start to finish. Everything listed in the mod works, although the ending was kind of boring. Too bad there isn't a NewGame+ mod for Far Cry 2, otherwise I would keep playing it. Thanks to everyone that has helped me build this mod. I would recommend everyone to check out Dannyhl2's NewDunia mod for more flavor and new features, although I can't say whether it would be as stable as this mod or balanced as well. Either way, I am moving on to other projects that aren't Far Cry 2.

I had plans of implementing a peacekeeping/UN faction (using the border patrol guards shown at the ending and the police officer shown in the taxi ride by the river crossing). However that's out of my knowledge but Danny may know how to do these things. These are my recommendations for new content in his NewDunia mod.

Thanks again for playing this mod. I had a blast with this one. 1.3 is the FINAL version. o7

Edit: (July 5, 2020) 1.4 Final is THE FINAL version of this mod. Should be no problems and the machete takedown is no longer invisible thanks to Tom's fixes. Also added the fix to enemy weapon arsenal probabilities and switched some nonexistent animations of the enemy AI to have the Vanilla vehicle "diving" animations so they look more alive. That's about it. Hope you all enjoyed.

Edit 2 (July 28, 2020): I highly recommend using Tom's newest mods or Hunter's Redux 3.0+ mod from now on instead of this one.

Due to personal situations, new projects, and time constraints I'm no longer updating this mod (meaning I cannot add Tom's emergency healing or update to follow Hunter's 3.0).

However this mod still works from start to end if you choose to use it. I just highly recommend using Tom or Hunter's mods due to being more up to date. Thanks for playing and enjoy FC2!

Good job, Marc~~ Now I can safely finish the game. But I want to ask you this: how should I adjust the color settings to best suit the reshade?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

Eh I play on a low end laptop so I turned down the Gamma slider a little since the reshade that Evergreen provided (not his FC2 one) was a little too dark by default.

As for the stealth take down, it should be working properly.

Though I did have a case where I tried to silent take down a sniper and everyone got alerted. I reloaded a save before that and it worked. I guess you have to make sure to sneak up to them (but not be standing so close behind their back that they can practically hear your breathing) and wait for your character to bring up the machete with their right hand, and then do the takedown. The usual machete swipes would just make them hurt and scream like in Vanilla. Maybe Tom could look into this. Other than that, it's working properly for me.

Yeah I usually do that everytime I do a take down. I think that makes it a 100% chance when you do that.

As for the ReShade, maybe Ev3rgreen could guide you for the best color settings.

Edit: Hm... Did you start a new game before installing this mod? You can't use the older versions I uploaded. It's most likely going to break things if you continue an older save where previous mods had been used.

Could you also try using the other versions of the machete? Primitive and Homemade.

Actually... Try capping your FPS, maybe to less than 60 (using multi fixer). I don't play at full 60 fps but maybe you're going way above (>60) that it actually causes issues with the AI?

Maybe that will solve it. Will check back tomorrow.

Far Cry 2 wasn't meant to be run above 60 fps. It's going to start breaking the game if you do so with bugs like "floating" AI and even the phone calls breaking. I recommend you cap your game at 55 to be safe.

As for the silent machete takedown, I'll release an update today since Tom figured out a fix for it to actually become 100%.

From Tom on the fix:
"I've just updated the silent machete takedown guide and toolkit. The enemies were still sensing the takedowns and reacting when they weren't looking at the player. Now they don't react at all but unfortunately this comes with a bug where if the takedowns are performed far from the enemy the player becomes invisible during the animation. Do the takedowns up close and everything is normal."

I always lock at 60 too but my laptop still never reaches that high. The game wouldn't be any slower if you can constantly get 55.:P Maybe that will solve all the phone call bugs.

Anyway the update will come out later today.

New version up. The silent machete takedown now should be 100% and the issues you had should be no more thanks to Tom. Might still want to cap your FPS to somewhere below 60. :v

Nice! Glad to hear it's working for you!

Let's see how well you do. ;D
Good places to try using the stealth approach is to clear "Fresh Fish" in tutorial.
Go left using the small jungle, sneak into the small shed (where mercs can be asleep!), peak from the window, take out anyone who is fishing, and clean up.

Another place is in "Private Property". A lot of places to hide and is very fun to kill mercs silently.

I look forward to your stealth videos!

Hello,
The phone bug also occurs in DX9 sadly. Less often, but still does.
For your color settings, I recommend keeping the Gamma, Brightness and Contrast to their default values. I used the default values when making those presets, so that's what they're tuned for :)
I made a new Reshade preset as well, which keeps some of the vanilla feel but still has more hues, bright blue skies, lush green leaves etc.
I think Marc included it in the latest release ;)

Hey Ev3rgreen, thanks for your preset! They are awesome! And I think AlmostVallia preset better than Ev3rgreen preset. AlmostVallia makes the game feel more like in Africa, it's brighter and more beautiful. That is my personal opinion!

Well thanks for the kind words! I made both of them, with the first I just gave the world a huge color boost because people generally don't like the drab, grey/brown, bleak vibe of FC2 - for the second I tried to keep some of the vanilla feel (hence the name "almost vanilla" ahah) whilst still giving more color, hues and vibrance to areas that are typically very colorful like skies, lush green vegetation...
I'm really glad they make your experience with Marc's mod better! :)

I've never heard of that issue before... What version of FC2 are you using? What's the order of optional installs you chose? Need you to be a bit more specific.

Edit: It should say so in the menu. 1.03? You should be using a legal copy of the game otherwise I don't think it'd work. I believe Fortune's edition might also be required. Are you also using the multifixer?

Go into Documents\My Games\Far Cry 2 and make sure that NONE of those folder are read only (right click on My games folder, go to properties, uncheck Read-only if it is checked). And that your UAC settings allow the game to save in that location.
If you're playing on a Retail/High Seas copy, the mod may not work. Nothing can really be done about that.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

Marc🦈 - - 821 comments

Version 1.7 doesn't exist?

I'll be sure to check these optional installs then when I update the mod with fixed machete.

Also try reducing your graphics settings. The game usually CTDs if your system can't handle the "moved up a tier" graphics options I added from Tom's Vanilla+ mod. This might be the reason why you can't save.

Edit: I haven't found anything that would cause problems. Try lowering your settings and see if you can make a save. Otherwise, it's likely a problem on your end as no other user has reported this issue when using this mod. You may also want to follow this if you're still desperate for a fix:

> EXTRA STEPS: (For Anti-Crash to Desktop on (first) launch)

1) Go to "C:\Users\(User Name)\Documents\My Games\Far Cry 2".

2) Find "GamerProfile.xml" and delete it.*(If that still doesn't work, delete the whole Far Cry 2 folder in "My Games").

3) Go through the installation instructions above if you haven't already.

Good luck. Maybe downloading the new 1.1 version of this mod might end up fixing your problem.

At first, stealth looked good. That was until I started experimenting.

1)Sometimes I am just crouch-walking in short grass (not bladed weeds which are more effective by default) right in front of them and they do not see me.
2)The sniper on platform near the greenhouses did not notice me at all when crouching, even when on terrain where there is no foliage. Gave him plenty of opportunities. Then noticed me immediately when I stood up, so that's good.
3)When trying to avoid a vehicle patrol, you can just stand straight in a bush and have them almost run you over. (Tested with the patrol near eastern bus stop, in daylight.)

Also I noticed that they do not return fire from long distance. They just walk closer to me like they do when coming to investigate, start shooting only at certain range. Made the combat way too easy on open areas.

I have no idea how to change stealth values and even if you should. Just letting you know of my experiences so far. Game is too easy in my opinion.

Hm. I guess it does make it easier. I could try finding a middle ground, but it's kind of what I preferred to have instead of the polar opposite of these things happening. I always play on Infamous difficulty so it's been pretty challenging, but still fun.

If you want to get into modding these values themselves- then you could join the modding discord where I (or other modders like Tom and Hunter) could guide you to the right places. Such as gamemodesconfig.xml (for the AI detection times) as well as AI FOV (enemy_archetypes.xml). I'm sure both modders can guide you well on your path to customizing it to your liking.

Two minor problems I notice when playing the v1.1

1. The stealth takedowns only works when the player's hand is invisible(animation missing), otherwise you will get spotted very easily and ruin the stealth.

2. Sometimes there are weird black box textures poping out on my screen like crazy.

Other than that it's pretty cool.

Edit: Also it's easier than the vanilla FC2 but I think it's just some casual fun I never had when making my own mod. So I kinda like it. Different taste same fun.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

1. Hm. The stealth takedowns are still working as intended. Also hoping new game wasn't required for people. The fix Tom did cost us the animation (so it becomes invisible sometimes), but as long as you do takedowns when appropriate (isolated targets where no enemy mercs can see you do the "standing takedown") then you should be alright.

2. As for the weird black box textures... I never had that before. But Ev3rgreen could maybe provide some advice since he's experienced that if I remember correctly. Might have to do with the reshade or the graphics settings you have set.

Yeah I guess I wanted casual fun than the extreme difficulty I experienced in NewDunia from before. People may like it. Maybe not. To each their own, though I really focused on the AI to be more forgiving for the stealth gameplay. People are free to try the other mods out for FC2 like NewDunia, Hunter's original Redux, and Tom's Vanilla+. Each with their pros and cons.

About the black squares: This is a bug that's related to the DX10 renderer. It's been there for years even in vanilla sadly. And believe me, it's been driving me (and others!) mad for almost a full year now... Here's a post I made on PCGW documenting it extensively: Community.pcgamingwiki.com

I think it has to do with WDDM, which was introduced in Vista, and some legacy features were broken as soon as Seven was introduced. Whenever both Bloom and HDR are enabled at the same time, it happens.
There's two workaround that I know of:
- Play in DX9, but you'll loose some performance
- Turn off either bloom in your GamerProfile.xml and make it read-only. The problem is, your screen brightness won't adapt to darker scenes (aka adaptive bloom), so you'll have to compensate by having a higher gamma or brightness.

Personally, I play with DX10 all ultra (well, far beyond ultra actually, you know what I mean :P) and I just deal with it. Water tends to cause it, as well as looking all the way down on the ground if there's Parallax. Sprinting in the grass can also trigger it.

You said you were playing on a laptop, may I ask which GPU that laptop has? An Intel integrated chip I presume? I'm asking this because we came to the conclusion that it's not an AMD/ATI nor Nvidia problem, but couldn't test on Intel iGPUs.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

Running this mod with a Nvidia 620M, but the black box popping is more frequent than I expect.

I always thought that was a texture bug.

EDIT: Will test with all the textures removed.

Ev3rgreen - - 12 comments

Oh okay, thanks anyway. I thought we may have confirmation that it also occurs on Intel iGPUs.

Unfortunately yeah, it's really distracting. I'm still working on finding how I can fix the mess Ubisoft didn't but most of the usual debugging tools don't work with DX10. It's a shame because the performance boost alone justifies using DX10 IMO.
