Red Alert 3 - Unleashed is set 26 years after Uprising. A total conversion of Red Alert 3, it will include 3 totally new factions with all new units, buildings and powers.
The Infantry Battle Vehicle (IBV) is the big brother of the IFV. Capable of crushing smaller units and holding up to 4 infantry, this monster makes a formidable unit against even larger armies.
You'll notice that the units attacking the IBV are from the original Red Alert 3. This is for demostration purposes only. Sounds will also be replaced on the final version.
Ou... my god!!!
:O My jaw just fell off my face.
Battle Fortress is back!!! =D (?)
Unlike the Battle Fortress if the infantry unit has to stand still while when he normally fires, he will also have to wait until the IBV stops moving and bumping about to fire. This means you need to be careful when stocking up a IBV with just one unit type. It could lead to a very costly transport should it be destroyed.
which infantry in RA3 could fire while walking...?^^' (...none...)
which means you confirm that there is infantry which can fire while walking=
Actually the Tesla trooper can fire while walking.
and shinobis, and imepial warriors and conscripts...
Holy cow, what a monster!
... Wow, i want one...
And the thing self heals!!! O.o
Ok this is quite good, well when before it was said to be slow, this isnt so slow! I thought it would be creeping and thats why I thought well heck he wouldnt be able to crush if other units can easily outrun.
That lookt like 2 tesla, a sniper and maybe commando inside ?! I was curious why 4 infantry slots were chosen ? Well most vehs carry either 1 or 5 I was thinking ..
I am not sure that was as good a test of armor in this demo, because arent the buggies usually stronger against infantry/aircraft ?
I do have a couple important ?s tho,
1. If infantry can only fire from inside whilst the veh is stopped, how can the infantry defend against enemy units that are out of their range, enemy units that can keep moving away AND firing at the same time ?
2. If the transport is destroyed w/ infantry inside, do the infantry instantly die or will they emerge unharmed or w/ reduced health ?
Answer to your first question, is infantry that need to stand still to fire on the battlefield, they need the IBV to stop for them to fire. So, to explain this a bit more, let's say I put 2 infantry that can fire on the move, and two that can not. While the IBV is moving the two infantry men who can fire on the move will be able to shoot. While the IBV is stationary, all four can shoot
The IBV is a support unit, not an attack tank. Normal transports don't let units fire out at all, so think of this as half way between a Battle Fortress and a transport.
Commander_RealWar has answered the first point. It tests it stands up quite well, as good as a Apoc (but with more versatility). As a support unit it's not meant to be overpowered (like most people think the BF was).
The armour will be worked out in the beta (although it won't be too different as we don't want to OP it), as will a decision about the infantry death on IBV destruction. The sneak peek used the Apoc amour and HP with 80% of the Apoc speed.
Ok so then one of this vehs worst enemies will be aircraft, given it cannot crush aircraft, cant outrun them and wont be able to fire back except that it stop and have atleast 1-2 (of 4) rocket inf inside.
I guess in the end that limits the amount of other kinds of infantry you can carry, lest you want to risk being destroyed by aircraft alone, maybe you can do a demo/test using upgraded ground and air units to see how this vehs armor stands against them..
As for transports that dont normally let them fire from inside, well they still have some other weaponry tho, bullfrog has AA and the allies hover transport does have a machine gun atleast and well the emperor transport has the ability to stealth its identity for some protection. Still considering this veh has the ability to crush is good since none of the other transports even have that, very annoying your transport should have to move out of the way of infantry!
United Coalition has the strongest anti-air, and it's likely the anti vehicle infantry (which is also anti air) will be able to shoot while moving - so not really a problem.
I take your point that all the other transports have a defence of sorts, but none of them have the armour of a Apoc, so think of its armour as its defence.
It's possible that as the Beta is tested we do find it needs it's own weapon, in which case we will give it one. None of this is fixed at the moment.
