Name for a new race Thread - R.E.A.R.M. - The Unofficial Classic HW 2 Expansion mod for Homeworld 2

We need to decide it fast.
First is the name it already has in a tone of the files and it's my original choice, second is the name which was suggested by hell_diguner and which has the biggest support (what is it's origin BTW?).
I won't throw other random names here, because I really need to finally decide this.

Coros, definitly.

Just sounds the coolest if you ask me.

I also prefer it and to me it would be easier anyway, I wouldn't have to rename all their stuff -ships, subsystems, weapons, AI classdef, formations...

voted coros, simply best of the 2, and a better aname isn't simply at hands.

I am for Nassar, but the way it goes it seems it will be Coros. Oh well I`m just happy we got rid of Barakka.

I still love Barakka, it's a great name for... something else... It will probably never be used anyway.

Don't try to push anyone anywhere, you know that I (I as the only developer) am for Coros and if this won't be fair or unbiased, I'll name them Coros anyway. I don't like seing any "pushing" here. I would seriously like you to edit your comment, this is not a contest, I want to know what people thinks, not to vote them what they think we want, because you said so (while you don't have anything to do with the development).

Hey I`m not cheating or something. People have free will and my post doesn`t take that away. Everyone is voting the way he/she likes or doesn`t vote at all. I`m not bribing anyone. The "push" if it happens will be perfectly fair with votes not by any other illegal means. BTW gotta tell you Coros sounds pretty close to Korosu (in japanese - "to kill". The U is soft almost fading which results in almost similar pronunciation of Coros and korosu).

I already said that if I would take into consideration what does it sound like in every possible language, Nassar would be out of the question just immidiatelly, because in my native (!) language it's almost identical to "don't piss me off". You had to read it, it was in the reply to your comment. So "kill" or "don't piss me off", whatever, it doesn't matter, we wouldn't find anything this way.

Fair... my english dictionary is limited, but I still stick to fair and unbiased (those I said before), because they still do describe what I mean pretty well.
First of all, it's my poll, my thread, my mod, so my rules, if I say no pushing, then no pushing, period. People do have a free will, but I want them to come here with the clear mind and decide for themself without any external influence. To be honest there shouldn't be anything but the poll for that, that's true...

I don`t know if it`s possible to vote in a locked thread but I see no reason to lock it. You say no pushing that`s ok but actually isn`t what you, the sole developer of this mod, say (that you like the Coros more), isn`t it more like a pushing than what I say: "vote for nassar"? For the people that don`t have an opinion or haven`t decided yet if there are such at all, which statement has more weight and feels more like pushing? The developer`s one or the one of the guy that throws some posts now and then in this forum? You say no pushing yet with your stated preference for Coros you are doing what you are not allowing me to do. I`d say that`s unfair. Locking the thread will not allow people to tell how awful or vulgar some of the names might sound in their language )) Not that I know of such name but it`s possible So it`s either a poll thread with no possibility to state your opinion just voting allowed or it `s a thread where we can actually choose a suitable name while still able to state pros and cons of each name. I believe people haven`t become mindless zombies yet which when told "vote for that" jump in and start voting like crazy not knowing what and why they are voting for. If they were they would have been willing to follow your preference much more easily than follow mine. So let`s drop that "pushing", "persuading" thing and choose a name...

Yeah, that's why I said if it's possible to vote in the lock thread, meaning that I would actually delete everything (together with my introduction) and left only the poll itself, which would make it absolutely fair. But ok, just let's leave it be... Also I'm not saying that Coros is briliant, I could find one or two cons for it (for example sounding more or less oldschool).
But with all this I still disagree with you, you could at least try to understand my point of view about the no-influence environment -I'm not saying that people are zombies, athough I think some of them are, I'm talking about the... how to say it. Like when two people don't remember a certain thing very well, for example something in a movie, and one asks another what was it exactly ...and give him to choose from two options. By that you kill it, because you imprint the newest information over the fading memory. This is not the same case, but I'm talking about looking at the pictures and choosing for yourself based on what you feel is right, instead go into discussion full of other oppinions and noises which can distort his own initial thought (this happens wheter you're zombie or not, human brain is not digital).

And by the way, to understand ourselves better: Nassar is present here because I like it, if I wouldn't I wouldn't I put it here in the first place. I just prefer the other one a little bit more (how couldn't I when it was the initial working title). But since they are both pretty good, I'm giving you people the power to decide.

Wow that is really close. The final name whatever it will be, shouldn't win by few percent, it better clearly differentiate.

Is there a time limit for choosing a name for the new race?

Officially no, but unofficially you've got until the next release. Let me explain:
As I said it's already in game as Coros, if I wouldn't update the names according to this poll until the next release, it would stay as Coros possibly for months. And after such long time the change might be hard to accept and get used to. Plus I need the name soon anyway, all the related files are using it. I won't rename the FX files, that would be a suicide, but ship, weapon, subsystems, icon, formation and starting fleet files are those I want to update with the new names.

So we've got days.

More people are watching your mod than it at first seems Pouk. It appears that there are many people that track REARM, but rarely voice themselves with comments and thread posts.

I've thrown in my vote for Coros, although....it doesn't quite work for me.

If I'd noticed this thread earlier I would have pushed for something more like "The Affront".
Not that term exactly because it is a straight rip from my favourite author, but something with a similar evocation.

A term that is not what these guys originally call themselves, but what others call them; in fear, and they have then taken for themselves.
