Raising the Bar is a mod based off of the idea of amalgamating the earliest concepts of Half-Life 2 into a coherent story. This mod is not a leak-fix, nor is it a concept art recreation gallery; it will be a full story with inspiration from the old material as well as our own ideas of how to make it all fit together.

Discontinuing of the RtB mod, and a brief summary of the recent events on the mod page.

Posted by on

The mod for the time being has been discontinued, mainly due to lack of ability on our members parts to put time into the mod anymore (due to life matters). After a bit of internal discussion, we have decided to discontinue the mod and release our assets to the community so perhaps they can continue on the work that we have put in.

You may have as well noticed an article of this nature previously posted, however it was deleted. It was simply a bit of confusion and disagreement, which has since been worked out. We are all very disappointed that it has to be discontinued, however we feel it is only fair that the we announce this and allow you to have the work of our team, which we believe would be unfortunate to simply not release.

We have had a great time with all of you and enjoyed working on this mod as much as our free time allowed. Though keep in mind RtB may someday return and be worked on again, but for the moment we feel it would be unfair to not notify the community of the current status and affairs of our mod. A member of the team, Boker, has however announced plans of perhaps continuing the mod on another page. More details on that to come soon perhaps.

In the meantime though, we recommend going and checking out Dark Interval by Cvoxalury. You can find it here : Moddb.com

As aforementioned, we have as well released most of our files. They can be found here: Drive.google.com

Sincerely,

The Raising the Bar Development Team

Another mod discontinued...

It's sad to see mods choosing this route during development, but then again we may never know if they end up good or not.

;(

Can someone provide another download link?

When I try to download with Google Drive, I end up with a folder called "3d-5" which only contains some of the texture files.

Well, I was able to download the design documents, but the development folder still results in 3d-5.

We see it more and more, developers take to much on and after months or years of work they start to realise that what they have in mind can never be made by them (without any help). And so dies another mod.

Another reason also can be that HL(2) is almost dead by now. Hardly any great developers are working with it and the amount of people who download and play it are also way down. Years ago a great mod could have hundred of tousands of people playing it, these days you need to happy with maybe 50.000 people playing it, a good mod that is.

So, all in all. The HL2 modding scene is more dead then alive.
And lets be honest, HL2 did do quit well. But even those games die at some point. A real shame but its just nature at its best so to speak.

Strangely, I feel like a lot of mods are still being produced, but there are just not as many people downloading them. We still see some pretty awesome and expansive mods get cranked out each year (not as many as in the past, but still a huge number in comparison to most computer games), yet the download numbers are frequently very low. The ratio of creators to players seems to be shifting towards fewer players per creator. So I'd say the HL2 modding scene is weirdly quite active, just not very well-known o_O

I really had hopes for this mod. I'm really sad about it being discontinued. Anyway I think it's great that you shared the files with the community.

at least release what was done so far, so anyone who wants to finish the mod (or another mod about the hl2beta) have a better chance of delivering a full mod
