Here you can see a true power of pbr-rendering in q2xp engine. Take a look at machinegun, there are 2 different materials - glossy edges and opaque main metal. Its hard to setup, but looks great and the pipeline is similar to Unreal Engine 4 rendering.
And another feature - muzzle flash for machinegun. The original game don't have such feature, but you asked about this, so we made it!

See if you can get the muzzle flash to light up nearby walls when you fire.
we can, its nothing special - just need to add another light at position of muzzleflash.

The flash seems to grow and shrink while firing.
It looks a little too smooth.
there is no room for experiment. i have only 2 frames at model while firing at animation line. all i can change - size and texture, but only at two frames. at one frame muzzle is visible, at other - not.

yes, some of weapons need muzzle flash, and i will add it.
