Welcome to Project Reality: Battlefield 2 (aka PR:BF2), a modification for the retail Battlefield 2 multi-player PC game. Project Reality's aim is to create a more realistic combat environment than standard Battlefield 2, and place a greater emphasis on teamwork and cooperation. Most of the aspects of Battlefield 2 that have the capacity to be modified have been tweaked, or completely overhauled, to reflect their real life counterparts, for increased realism. Ballistics have for example also been audited to reflect those of real weapons, including characteristics such as damage, deviation and bullet drop depending on a weapon systems calibre. Since EA and DICE no longer support Battlefield 2 and is no longer being played online, the Project Reality team made PR:BF2 a standalone game. No longer is a installation of Battlefield 2 required and we have implemented our own online account system for online play.

That my friend is one of the many types of IED's that you will find on a modern battlefield. As you can see, it is built around a cell phone, which is a common occurence among insugents, for the fact that they can detonate while far away from the explosive device. Another type is the 155mm shell....lol, I'll get to that some other time...

Then there's Christmas tree lights, which are apparently quite popular with the Taliban right now. Since the lights are all wired in series, when one blows the circuit breaks and they all go. Normally this is a pain because you have to either find the one blown bulb or just buy new lights; they take advantage of this and use a break in the circuit to trip explosives (usually a 155 aimed right at the driver's compartment - they actually measure the vehicles and then angle the thing accordingly). Since they cover the lights in black rubber or similar, they're nearly impossible to see and the moment a vehicle drives over it breaks the circuit. Credit where credit's due, they're smart bastards.

Mod lover that is what an IED is...... hence " IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE", how dare you tell me I'm wrong from your parents computer, when I've worked for Dyncorp Intl as a Force Security guard at Camp As Sayliyah, plus also Im a veteran Indirect Fire Infantryman US Army 2001-2003. Modlover before you act smart, make sure you can get your facts right. If you would like to learn more on this subject I know the number of a great recruiter that can hook you up with two to six years of the mos of your choice to better educate you in this field.

That's an extremely common finding around the internet.

Most people around many popular sites (I'd say about 95 to 99% - NOT including specialized weapon related sites/forums obviously) don't have the basic knowledge about weapons, those people can't - obviously - make any argument about the weapon's effectiveness whatsoever.

It's extremely common to find people on sites like Youtube (specially on weapon-related videos) saying the most outrageous things about weaponry (associated with popular belief).
People usually "evaluate" a weapon by their look (if a weapon is "cool" then it's better in their opinion, which is something extremely absurd).

People like USINFANTRYMOS11 are very important to enlighten those people with the true and actual facts.

Very well said Snake. In fact one should not base a weapon on looks at all. Take the Luger P-08 pistol for example, uglier than words can describe, however it was so widely used and so reliable it became one of the most well known pistols in history. The Sherman tank....lol, ugly, not well armed, not much of anything, But it was so easy to make it's sheer numbers basically won WW2. Yes there are some flukes.. but one should really learn about weapons in detail before downing or praising, or making any comment on them.

Thanks. Definitely, people need to actually know (at least the basics) what they are talking about before saying nonsense.

Since weapons became more and more "integrated" on the modern society (via films, music, mass media, etc...) the number of "miths" and false information/popular belief is of an untold scale, this leads to generally accepted false information ("corrupted facts").

Let's take for example, the "portable" miniguns, definitely one of the biggest weapon miths EVER - sure everyone saw them in "action" on Hollywood movies like Predator and loved them and praised them as "cool" and "awesome" (i did as well), most people still think (popular/general belief) that portable miniguns can be actually used as a 1-man portable weapon like the one in the movie, HOWEVER, what they don't know is that it simply isn't possible - it's unacceptable as a 1-man portable weapon.

The rate of fire would waste ammo at an staggering rate (ammo waster) not to mention the extreme recoil and weight (of the weapon, ammo and power source, not counting with the rest of the gear/supplies soldiers need to carry on the battlefield) and the likelihood of problems to change barrels on the field and mechanical failures.

The "Predator Minigun", however was most likely based on a true project made by General Electric back in the late 60's (the epoch where miniguns started to being widely utilized on aircraft in Nam).
The prototype was called the XM214 Microgun ("Six-Pak") - a scaled down 5.56mm version of the good'ol 7.62mm M134 Minigun.

They rapidly found that more "conventional" weapons like the FN Minimi (the "mother" of the family of the US Military-adopted M249's) have a practical (actually possible) high rate of fire that is not much slower than the one of the exotic rotating-barrel minigun (soldiers do not need extremely fast-firing weapons) and could actually be used as an extremely effective lighter weapon without the need for batteries (like the minigun/microgun) and FULLY capable to being used as a 1-man portable weapon that could lay down extremely accurate and deadly fire support.

I mentioned the Minigun because it's probably the "tip of the iceberg" of the weapon miths around the world.
Are "portable miniguns" cool? They sure are ... on games and films that is.

As would I not comment about a subject like Botany, or Birdwatching..... I pulled those out of my bum. Beings that I know completely nothing about the two subjects. However If I was to post about the two mentioned subjects, God forbid I ever do, I would go and read up on them first to better ensure that I didn't wind up with my foot in my mouth.

Thing I hate most about You-tube posts is that even if you do post the correct answer or enlighten someone on the correct info, some 13 year old kid calls you a strawberry douche. I'm just thinking of boycotting You-tube all-together, not a very cool place to post vids anyway. Vimeo or whatever it is has 10 times higher resolution, and a 100 times less on the amount of tards. Oh well.... at least it's good to see that there are many others that get ****** off at the same stuff I do.

Definitely, we can rarely post a comment with the real deal and actual factual information on youtube without getting a bunch of 10 year-olds saying the most stupid responses (because they "think" they know how a weapon functions or handles because they played Call of Duty 4 in the previous day O_o and also because they can spare the time to "invent" such stupid thoughts because their mummy and daddy pay their internet bills).

I mean, i won't even dare to post stuff in youtube after watching that gigantic snowball of error and BS. Heck, if John Browning was still alive he would immediately drop stone cold after hearing such nonsense!!!

you said it all. but the funniest thing is about tanks. if you really want to start world war three, all you need to do is post at one of those "military forums" on the internet that tank X is the best. then lean back and wait what happens^^
