Hey, hey! It’s time for us to come barging into your notes with a quarterly update once again, so we hope that’s alright. Fingers crossed you’ve all been well, as we certainly have. Progress has been continuing as usual, so let’s dive into that, yeah? Actual progress.

This engine’s been kicking and screaming but we scream louder and things seem to work out in our favor. From bug fixes, to upping engine limits (or cleverly skirting around them), we’re making things work. A recent thing we’ve been toying with is patrol patterns. There’s some interesting scenarios being cooked up and we wanted to get special behavior to accommodate.

*kkkrt* “Return to your positions!”

Dope stuff! Obviously, that AI needs to go somewhere. We put those suckers in these things called “levels,” you may have heard of ‘em. Those have been coming together pretty lovely-ly. Hazardous Course for one, is quite far along. In fact, it’s completely playable, start to finish! Hoorah! Lil rough around the edges, but that’s still a solid milestone.

With things getting more fully implemented, soon we’ll get to start putting those art studies to use, and performing art passes on the level proper. Speaking of, Hazardous Course as a level is an interesting case for our process, because - as some of you may know - we’ve actually made a Hazard Course as a team before, so it mooostly doesn’t get quite the same art study treatment as all of the other maps do. Nonetheless, they crop their heads up from time to time. Lookie!

Hazardous Course - Art Study

The elevators are out of order, but w- oh wait, no, it’s fine.

Domestic Violence has been getting some attention as well. Progress is lovely there, too, as the entire mission is also fully playable, front-to-back! Seems that it’s not far off from its art pass phase either. Have a peep at the Kitchen’s art study:

Today’s Chef Special: 12-Gauge Buckshot.

And what good’s a kitchen without a place to nom the spoils? With a steadily growing library of dining assets, the Level 3 dormitories’ cafeteria will have you chowing down on only the finest of cuisines.

Cafeteria Props

Mayo costs extra.

On the topic, some assets are a touch less simple. Also a lot larger. And yellow! Once you put your fork down, we’ve got something to help pick your fork up.

Forklift

Don’t worry, it can lift sporks, too.

That concludes the Colorful portion of this article, as well as our update for this quarter in general. We’ll be back to update you all again in Q2. Don’t wanna wait that long to hear from us again? We’ve got a Peer Review Community Discord server. You can chat with us, other fans of the project, and hey, did you know that sometimes we stream while we work on the game? Some members of the server got to see that forklift created, start to finish!

stream

A sight you could be beholding.

We’ve also got a Twitter profile. Over that way you’ll get posts about the quarterly updates, retweets of stuff our team members do, as well as the occasional cool bit from the Half-Life community.

But y’know what’s even cooler than being a fan? Being a developer! Yep, we’re cooler. PSR team applications are always open. We’d give anything for a 3D character artist (except for money, pfft), but aside from writing and sound positions, we’ve got space for anyone! If you wanna help us get this reboot along, fill out the team application form.

That does it for us today! Thankies for keeping up with us, and following along. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, cries of outrage, or distressing paternity tests, hit us up in the comments! Your support and feedback is widely appreciated.

No idea as of yet. We will be looking into social features like invites, Steam integration, and Discord integration a bit further down the line when we're more comfortable with where we're at with the main game's development progress.

It's minimally playable front to back, yes. But it currently *looks* very barebones, and there is a lot of gameplay refinement that still needs to be done. So it would be a pretty big disservice to you guys to release a video or demo of it anytime soon!

The patrol routes really give a metal gear feeling though it seems like the AI needs a bit of an upgrade to prevent them needing to actually trip over enemies before they open fire.
