The team has been busy and right now finishing Opposing Force 2 on our own is unfeasible. We're going to release all of our assets (including models, textures, sounds, maps and map files, documentation, the source code and the game as it is) that we've produced up until now on Github. We hope that you understand from this "alpha" release that we have worked hard but ran into our own personal projects and can't focus solely on the modification anymore. This release comes before mid July.
Regarding the future of OF2 we plan on making this a collaborative project & work with our fans towards a full release. If we went with this approach anyone would be able to contribute with any sort of content. Even fans not familiar with game development could pull requests to get stuff added, which would really allow us to engage the community.
This is just sad. I really hope that stuff you gonna release will be somewhat playable as campaign, at least half of it.
I'm replying to you because I want this to be on top; some people aren't truly understanding the news article, we must have made it unclear.
This shouldn't be sad news or whatever. It would be sad if we cancelled the mod. We're not. We still want this to see the light of day so we're turning this into a collaborative project.
If you do not understand this, this means that anyone skilled enough should be able to contribute with assets, even if it's the slightest contribution. This means: models, maps, textures, sound effects, voice acting and anything else related to the game. If you think your content is par to ours you're free to contribute, if not you can contribute with ideas and bug reports.
Right now me and Chris are really busy with a big project and we really haven't had any time to work on Opposing Force 2, hence the decision.
I like where this is going. and open source communicative community helping with the mod gives you the best of ideas
Damn that's sad man. Back I appreciate being able to assist you with story/news and all that back in the day. If anyone picks this up I'm a 20yo unemployed ******* who needs something to do ;)
EDIT: I hope the story is going somewhat in the same direction, but hey it's your mod.
I WOULD assist but ... I never really go into maps or models ... however, I would be willing to assist in voice acting, although I'm not sure how it would sound. But even with that I would be happy to do bug reports. Especially since my computer loves to have a problem with everything at least once.
This is unfortunate, but understandable. I am happy you are releasing the assets to the community. Hopefully this will put it back on track.
So there is still a chance?
Yes. This is about to become a collaborative project. Although me and Chris528 are not going to be working solely on this we're still going to aid and direct the community towards a full release.
What a huge shame MenteR, but i already had a feeling something was wrong because the last news update was from 2 years ago. As a modder i know all to well how much time and effort it takes to really finish and release a large project as this. And sometimes it just can't be done. Still, i would like to thank you and your team for all the fine moments you have given us till now and for the honesty of coming forward with this news.
It does hurt to pull the plug and even more to say it out loud.
Ofcourse do i hope this project will continu, but in all honesty, a lot of projects in this sad stage are never to be released.
But, lets wait and see, maybe people will take it from here on.
Many thanks!
Leon
We're not pulling the plug, this is about to become a collaborative project. We still wish to see this released as a final campaign.
(buried)
What the crap! I have been watching this for like ever!
Sad now....
What's sad? The mod isn't dead.
It's A great relief you didint pull the plug on this, and making this open source is even greater, I'm proud of you guys. :)
Hm, this is an interesting turn.
So how will the contribution and organization of this collaborative project work? I may be interested in helping in whatever ways I could if it doesn't require a full commitment.
We'll be hosting the game on github, and people will be able to contribute by making pull requests. Anyone will be able to make bug reports, add requests, etc. I'll also be working on the code + fixing the many bugs people will probably be reporting.
This is a very interesting idea. I hope progress is made with this new design decision.
I was just playing the demo last night, I look forward to seeing what you have accomplished since the last release :)
Good to know development will continue. It may take long, but it will be worth it in the end. :)
And I lol'd at the comments yesterday, the news clearly said that development would continue, but as a collaborative project, similarly to the new Unreal Tournament.
But we can't judge them for not understanding, some big mods died recently. :( and that sucks...
I can fully understand your choice guys, i was in same situation with my ReWolfenstein project. I released the full alpha-game and SDK with the same hope. Of course no one continued the work, even i met with 9 player on a simple server (the mod was a cooperative mod of the old Wolf3D from '92 to Source engine) the mod had more than 500 watcher and went into the wasting:( i wish honestly that your mod will go on.
Good riddance to bad lizards. ;)
Don't Give up ever since you got this far. It is imperious it needed to be done. Although, you're so busy. But I have the patient to wait somewhere in the future. I can see it is coming. If the world leader don't start the WWIII. It will always be a hope. Wish the best of luck, even though considering to be dark age for you guys. However, I believe you guys can make it.

I wished Opposing Force 2 could have some sort of Call of Duty and Battlefield hybrid mix of gameplay elements.
Battlefield? Call of Duty? Youtube.com
i want to believe
Finally! A chance to work on the project! It's going open-source.
I'm willing to assist in terms of story direction in contrast to the HL storyline. (And connecting the events of OpFor 2 to HL2, Human Error, and the previous installments).
((Ps. One good idea is to try to have elements from other HL games/mods. But add variety in terms of gameplay. Different animations and differentiating the smg from the ar, for one)).
We need people who can model, do sound effects, voice act, facepose and map. We already have the story and all dialogue set in stone.
I have somewhat good mapping skills, when does the contribution start?
MenteR,hi! This mod...is Incredible, and perfect to the fans and lovers of HL...you and your guys do a good job (really!) i love this mod...and i wait for this since 3 years, and i wainting all of my life for this,is amaziiiiiiiiing!!!!!!!
I cannot help ( u.u ) im very bad with the models, mapping i dont know, sound effects (wtf?) and voice i have a pussy voice :'( but,you have my full support in this :D

I volunteer as tribute!
The mod team said that the mod will be released somewhere before mid-july.
And it's almost the end of july...
August*, and we're still really, really busy. We're not going to just release it as is because of impatience from fans.
Will you also release it on ModDB as well

perhaps even an alpha release, and not a demo? (Google translator)
Why so long to come out?
Is this still relevant? Opposing Force was awesome.
where this bloody mod!?
Comrades! Tell me, when will this modification? I do not want to find fault, but we expect him almost 7 years!(google translete)
So is anyone working on this because assets etc are released?
Are you canceling this?
