Is it only me thats thinking a city sized map(50x50 blocks(or bigger)) would be fun to play survival on?
I understand how much rendering the game would have to load, but i would still love to see this done.

Main features of a big map:
Walkie-Talkies worthwhile.
Multiple shops/store.
Enough room for lots of players (52).
No cars(or cars) so you have to walk the whole city.
Random spawns so you need a walkie talkie jsut to find another player.

I also i want get into making NMRiH maps, could someone point me in the direction i need to get started?

This is a great idea!

You should watch hammer editor tutorials to start making maps for source games.

We've had a few draft maps like this in the past but they tend to get bogged down by engine and performance problems quite quickly. It takes a lot of clever trickery to get them to work. Another example we ran in to was with the map Suburbia; a gorgeous abandoned suburb overgrown and rotted out, but with its open exploratory design it had some major performance problems once more players and zombies were introduced. It really is a balancing act.

Hmm, bummer i would love to play a much larger "open world" map then the current survival maps.

what about taking a note from aliens colonial marines escape mode? point a to point b with maybe 2 or 3 routes with random tool/equipment spawn. anyone ever play resident evil outbreak?

DirtyDel you literally just described our Objective maps like Broadway, Chinatown and Cabin lol
We have some more Objective maps in the works.

As for the huge maps we are just largely limited by technical considerations. The Source Engine can only handle so much and we push it pretty hard but we will always try and make the maps as big and awesome as we can!
