Napoleonic Era is a renowned, fan-made modification for Age of Empires 3 and its expansions The Warchiefs and The Asian Dynasties. The mod intends to accurately illustrate the time from 1555-1815 by greatly expanding and reworking the game with new units, buildings, maps, sounds, music and civilizations. The mod has been founded in January 2006 by Alexander Fleger and is being continued by Peter Piepenburg since February 2010. It is still one of the most anticipated mods for Age of Empires III in the whole world.
Improving a game sometimes means doing the opposite of what the developers were doing. Ensemble Studios' implementation of Landsknechts and Doppelsoldners has always been a thorn in my side. A Landsknecht is a simple regular who fights with polearms whereas a Doppelsöldner gets double wages (Doppelsöldner = "double mercenary"), wears more expensive equipment and is able to use a two-hander (what a simple Landsknecht can't do). But now enough of history lessons!
The Landsknecht will replace the Doppelsoldner. There won't be many differences to its predecessor though as mainly the hitpoints and the costs will reduce. The design you see is in beta, the halberd will probably get replaced and in view of gameplay I still think about a nice extra.. ;)
